Sunday Wrap-Up: Lumberjacks sweep Mountain Cats

Michigan Mountain Cats 1 @ Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks 5: Cleveland waited till the last period but made it count as they broke a 1-1 tie scoring four unanswered to beat the Michigan Mountain Cats 5-1. The first two periods were quiet on the goal front until Tyler Stockwell finished on a Scott Cuthrell pass in the second period to give Cleveland a 1-0 lead. The Mountain Cats picked up a goal on the man advantage to tie the game at 1 with John Arms picking up the marker. Cleveland forward Scott Cuthrell, the reigning NA3HL leading scorer, continues his hot return when he picked up a shorthanded goal to ignite the string of Cleveland goals. Sam Pikus stopped 21 in net to earn the victory on the night. Boxscore

Pittsburgh Vengeance 3 @ Metro Jets 2 (OT): Cody Black picked up a goal off Tom Diffendal’s second assist of the night in overtime to defeat the Metro Jets 3-2. The game opened up with the teams trading goals with Pittsburgh getting a goal from Chris McCambridge and Metro getting the goal from Alex Holm. Nicholas Santiago lit the lamp in the middle frame for Pittsburgh giving the Vengeance a one-goal lead going into the final frame. Metro Jets newest acquisition Lucas Linville picked up his 2nd point of the night tying the game at two. Linville now has 5 points in his first two games for Metro. The buzzer sounded and the teams headed to overtime until it was Black who lit the lamp to give Pittsburgh the road victory. Boxscore

Peoria Mustangs 9 @ Chicago Junior Bulldogs 3: Just one game after losing their season best win streak the Peoria Mustangs were back into the win column beating the Chicago Junior Bulldogs 9-3. The offensive firepower was in full force for the Mustangs getting seven goals on the board before Chicago found the back of the net. Chance Homerin was the forefront of the Mustangs attack scoring two goals and three assists. The Junior Bulldogs had two players with multi point games getting a goal and an assist from Matt Kostopoulos and two assists from Luke Morin. Boxscore

Battle Creek Jr. Revolution 1 @ Cincinnati Swords 8: The Swords came out strong in the last two periods of the game scoring eight goals beating Battle Creek 8-1. The Jr. Revolution got on the board first with an unassisted effort from Jacob Lagrow to give them a lead going into the first intermission. The Swords came out of the locker room as a new squad scoring less then two minutes into the 2nd period starting the first of eight unanswered. There were three Swords who tallied three points on the night as Nikita Korotkov and RJ Marshall scored two goals and an assist and Henry Smith dished out three helpers. Boxscore

Alexandria Blizzard 2 @ North Iowa Bulls 5: Timothy Santopoalo added on to his NA3HL scoring lead picking up a hat trick and dishing out an assist in the North Iowa 5-2 victory. The Blizzard put the pressure on the Bulls early when Mick Dhein scored early in the first to take the lead. It wasn’t long afterwards that Santopoalo took a pass from teammate Richie Marenis and buried his first of the night. Marenis, who is second to Santopoalo in league scoring, had a great game picking up a goal and three assists. The Bulls broke the game open in the middle period as they scored three goals to take a two-goal lead they would not relinquish. Mick Dhein interrupted the big North Iowa period to bury his second goal of the night. Chris Amsden continued his strong play in the North Iowa crease stopping 28 shots to get his ninth win of the year. Boxscore
