Sunday Wrap-Up: Whalers salvage split with Mustangs

Peoria Mustangs 2 @ Wisconsin Whalers 7: Wisconsin goaltender David Volkmann stopped 38 shots and Ryan Martin scored a hat trick in the Wisconsin Whalers beat the Peoria Mustangs 7-2. The Whalers were perfect on the power play on the night scoring on both of their opportunities receiving goals from Martin and Max Whitney with the man advantage. The Mustangs cut down the lead to one in the middle frame after two straight from Brendan Murphy and Sam Turner but the Whalers took over and scored four unanswered to close the game. Boxscore

Flint Junior Generals 1 @ Pittsburgh Vengeance 2: The Pittsburgh Vengeance received a big game from Jason Kumpfmiller who stopped 39 shots to complete the weekend sweep of the first place Flint Junior Generals taking Sundays game 2-1. After a scoreless first period the Junior Generals struck first when Luke Dmytro scored on the power play to take the lead early. Tyler Speis scored late in the middle frame to tie the game up going into the final period. In the third period Tom Diffendal scored on the power play off a pass from Speis to win the game and complete the rare sweep of Flint on the season. Boxscore

Battle Creek Jr. Revolution 2 @ St. Louis Jr. Blues 7: The Jr. Blues scored seven straight goals through the first two periods to beat the Jr. Revolution 7-2. Alex Turin had a goal and two assists for the Jr. Blues leading their offense. The Jr. Revolution found the back of the net at the end of the second and in the third with Brandon Benaglio assisting on both Battle Creek goals. Clint Steinmeyer stopped 20 shots in net for St. Louis to pick up the win on the afternoon. Boxscore
