Granite City tops Alexandria on New Year's Eve, 8-3

Granite City Lumberjacks 8 @ Alexandria Blizzard 3 - On a New Years Eve tilt the Granite City Lumberjacks scored eight goals in their road victory over the Alexandria Blizzard. 

 

The Blizzard jumped out to a 3-2 lead after a strong first period that saw goals from Bo Gronseth, Aaron Ryback and Drake Hunter. The Lumberjacks cut the lead down to one getting goals from Drew Otto and Zac Sikich.

 

The rest of the game was dominated by the Lumberjacks as they picked up three goals in each of the last two periods. Otto was one of three Lumberjacks who scored a goal with a pair of assists against the Blizzard. Tim Brown and Mitchell Gwost were the other two.

 

Scott Murray picked up the win in net for Granite City stopping 27 Alexandria shots. Tanner Elmore took the loss for the Blizzard, making 41 saves.

 

Granite City’s Christian Mohs, Brett Love and Zac Sikich each had a goal and an assist, and Roy Grandov and Gavin Porter each scored a goal.

 

The Lumberjacks scored three times in each of the second and third periods. The 2nd period saw goals from Gwost, Love and Brown. Granite City scored three more times in the 3rd periodon goals from Mohs, Grandov and Porter.
