Flint defenseman McGovern makes college commitment

May 13, 2014
The Flint Junior Generals, formerly of the NA3HL, added a third member of the core of their Silver Cup Runners-Up team to ACHA Division I powerhouse Robert Morris (IL), as defenseman Connor McGovern committed to the Eagles.

McGovern, a native of Eagan, Minnesota, led the Generals with an astounding +41 mark for the season to go with 25 assists. McGovern was also named to the All-NA3HL 1st Team during the 2013-14 season.

"We believe Connor is a truly elite defenseman with all of the instincts in a player that cant be taught," said assistant coach Chad Berman. "He'll step in immediately and make an impact 5 on 5 and on special teams."

McGovern, 20, just completed his second full season in the NA3HL with Flint. In 69 career NA3HL games, McGovern totaled 43 points. He also had two points in 13 career playoff games.  McGovern played on Team East at the 2014 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament back in February, where he had two assists in three games.

McGovern joins Flint teammates Nick Gnagni and Brett Leppek who'd previously committed to the team. In all RMU-IL has signed four NA3HL players to date (Peoria's leading scorer, Nathan Chasteen will attend the school this Fall) and continues to be one of the top colleges that sees the league as their primary source for incoming talent.
