Metro defenseman Boskovic to represent country at World Juniors

January 6, 2016

By Matt Mackinder, Metro Jets

Even as the United States won World Junior bronze Tuesday, one member of the Metro Jets will soon play for his country at a similar event.

Metro defenseman Stefan Boskovic will travel to his home country of Serbia this week to play in the Division 2B IIHF World Junior Championship from Jan. 17-23.

“This is a great opportunity for Stefan and we are proud of him,” said Jets coach-GM Justin Quenneville. “He will join us later in the month and we will be rooting for him during his absence. He will have to use his feet and size (6-foot-4, 205 pounds) to contribute at that level and I know he will represent the Jets proudly.”

In 10 games this season with the Jets, the 19-year-old Boskovic has one goal and nine points, in addition to a plus-6 rating.

“I am looking forward to going home to see family and play for my country,” noted Boskovic. “I am grateful for what I am learning with Metro and can't wait to get back at the end of the month.”

Boskovic, originally drafted by the Jets in the seventh round (227th overall) of the 2015 NA3HL Draft, was also called up to the NAHL’s Aston Rebels for a stint in early December.
