Kings sign graduate Elkins

July 19, 2010

The Los Angeles Kings have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with forward Corey Elkins, who played in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) in 2002-03 as a member of the Compuware Ambassadors.

Elkins, 25, had one goal in three games with the Kings this past season, his first in the NHL. He made his NHL debut on Dec. 15 at Edmonton and scored his first NHL goal in his second game (Dec. 17 at Calgary).

The 6-foot-3, 216-pound native of West Bloomfield, Mich., recorded 43 points (21-22=43) and 24 penalty minutes in 73 regular-season games with the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2009-10. His 43 points was second on Manchester and first among club rookies (10th among AHL rookies). His 21 goals led Manchester (tied for fifth among AHL rookies).

Elkins, who played four seasons at Ohio State University (CCHA) before embarking on his pro career this past season, had eight points (3-5=8) and zero penalty minutes in the Monarchs' run to the AHL Eastern Conference finals. He was signed by the Kings as an unrestricted free agent on March 31, 2009.
