Helena goalie Martens makes NCAA commitment

The Helena Bighorns of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that goaltender Grant Martens has committed to play NCAA hockey at Becker College. Becker is an NCAA Division III school that plays in the ECAC Northeast Conference.
Martens, 20, is in his second and final season of playing junior hockey in the NA3HL. The native of Bloomington, MN, has appeared in 19 games this season, posting a record of 8-9-0 with a 3.38 goals against average and a 90.9% save percentage.
Last season was a breakthrough one for Martens (6’2/185) who was one of the better goalies in the league. Martens was named the NA3HL’s Frontier Division Goaltender and Rookie of the Year and also named to the NA3HL’s All-Frontier Division 1st Team. Martens finished 2nd in the league in save percentage with a 93.8% mark and ranked 4th in goals against average at 1.90.
Martens also played in the 2015 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament in Ann Arbor, Michigan, representing the Frontier Division. In 48 career NA3HL regular season games, Martens has a 19-7-2 record with a 2.46 GAA and a 92.6% save percentage.
Prior to playing in the NA3HL, Martens was a standout high school hockey player for Bloomington Jefferson High School in Minnesota.
