Point Mallard forward Dunn signs NAHL tender

May 11, 2016
The Point Mallard Ducks organization of the NA3HL is proud to announce that forward Justin Dunn has signed an NAHL tender with the Shreveport Mudbugs. The Mudbugs are a new NAHL team that will be in the NAHL's South Division starting in the 2016-17 season.

Dunn, from Trenton, Michigan led the Ducks in scoring in 2015-16 with 38 goals, 49 assists for 87 points, in 55 total games played. He also had 67 penalty minutes and a plus-40 rating.

“Justin flat out had an outstanding season, he is a complete player, plays a 200 foot game and excels in all situations. He is a scoring threat at even strength, on the power play, and killing penalties. Justin has tremendous hockey sense and poise with the puck. As an organization we can’t be more excited for him and this opportunity he has earned,” stated Ducks GM/Head Coach Tom Winkler.

In his two seasons with the Ducks, Dunn posted 56 goals, 77 assists for 133 points, in 95 total (regular season, playoffs, and Silver Cup) games. He had a plus-54 rating to go along with 115 total penalty minutes. A member of the 2016 South Division NA3HL Top Prospects Team, Dunn also was voted to the NA3HL South Division All-Star team and he was a NA3HL 3rd Team All-Star.

Dunn is the third NAHL tender for the Ducks in only their second year of existence.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 7, 2016.
