The Wisconsin Whalers of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward Russ Barone has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at Gustavus Adolphus in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
Barone, 21, just completed his third and final season playing in the NA3HL. The native of Romeoville, Illinois, spent almost the entire season with the Whalers and had his best career season with 43 points in 39 games played.
Barone (5’11/180) began the season with the Twin City Steel, whom he had played with the entire 2014-15 season. After one game, he then joined the Whalers, where he ended up 4th in team scoring.
Barone was also selected to and played in the 2016 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament for the Central Division team, where he had a goal in three games.
In his three-year NA3HL career, which began with Breezy Point in 2013-14 and continued with Twin City and Wisconsin, Barone had 77 points in 105 career games.
“We are very happy for Russ. He was a leader of our team and worked everyday to make this NCAA commitment happen,” stated Wisconsin head coach Tom McDermott.
