North Iowa forward Barnes signs NAHL tender
June 10, 2016
The North Iowa Bulls, proud members of the NA3HL, are excited to announce that forward Marshall Barnes has signed an NAHL tender agreement with Corpus Christi Ice Rays, who compete in the NAHL’s South Division.
Barnes, 19, who hails from from Edina, Minnesota, was a prolific set up man for the Bulls.
As a rookie, Barnes led all NA3HL players in assists during the 2016 regular season with 56. Along with 13 goals, three of which were game-winners, Barnes (6’0/190) was second in scoring for the Bulls with 69 points in the regular season. Barnes was named to the 2015-16 NA3HL All-Rookie Team for his efforts, as well as, being named the NA3HL Central Division Rookie of the Year.
He was consistent during the playoffs as he tallied six points in seven games during the 2016 Silver Cup National Championship playoff run.
Barnes played for 18U Selects Team Black at the 2016 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament, where he had a goal in three games.
"Marshall was one of our strongest players when he had the puck. His ability to hold off defenders and find teammates for scoring opportunities was uncanny. His vision and ability to wire passes kept him a staple on one our power play units all year,” said North Iowa head coach Todd Sanden.
The North Iowa Bulls thank Marshall Barnes for his dedication to our team and wish him the best in Corpus Christi as an IceRay.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which was held on June 7, 2016.
