The Willmar WarHawks of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that goaltender Alex Cathcart has signed a North American Hockey League tender agreement with the Amarillo Bulls for the 2017-18 season.

Cathcart, 19, was selected to and played in the 2017 NA3HL Top Prospect for the Black Selects team and played 3 games totaling in 52 saves with a save percentage of .867. The 5’11/170 lbs. native of Northridge, California has played in 16 games thus far during the 2016-17 season, resulting in 498 saves, a goals-against average of 3.45 and a save percentage of .905.

Cathcart’s total stats for his current season with Willmar combined with his 3 games for the Top Prospects Black Roster include 550 saves, with a .902 saves percentage and a goals-against average of 3.74 for an overall of 964 minutes played in 19 games.

“The WarHawks organization could not be more proud of Alex signing with Amarillo. Alex came to Willmar with the goal of improving his game to get back to the NAHL. He did this while being a leader for us both on and off the ice,” said Head Coach Chris Blaisius. “Alex is only beginning to scratch the surface of his development. We see him signing and playing in Amarillo as the next step of a very successful career.”

Prior to playing in the NA3HL, Cathcart spent a season with the Omaha 16U team in the NAPHL.

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 6, 2017.
