NA3HL announces Bauer Divisional Stars of the Week

The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey for the week ending January 21, 2018. The divisional stars of the week is an award given each week of the regular season to the top performing players in each of the eight divisions of the NA3HL as nominated by their head coaches.

 

Central Division Star of the Week: Colin Cain, Goalie, North Iowa Bulls

One of the hottest goaltenders in the league, Colin Cain was perfect this past weekend. On Thursday, the native of Hummelstown, Pennsylvania stopped all 24 shots the Wisconsin Whalers threw in his direction. After an off night Friday, Cain returned to the crease Saturday and denied the Wausau RiverWolves 22 times en route to his fifth shutout of the season. Cain is 21-1-2-2 this season in 26 appearances and has allowed one goal or fewer in 12 of his last 13 starts.

Coastal Division Star of the Week: Marc Faia, Forward, Northeast Generals

Northeast forward Marc Faia caught fire last weekend as he put together two stellar performances as the Generals swept the Maine Wild. On Saturday, Faia tallied a goal and an assist in a 7-5 victory. It was Sunday when Faia took over with a five point effort. The forward from Everett, Massachusetts potted a pair of goals and added three assists to finish the weekend with seven points. Faia was also a plus-4 for the weekend.

2nd Star: Tyson Gudaitis, F, New England Stars

East Division Star of the Week: Joey Gerace, Forward, Southern Tier Xpress

Southern Tier forward Joey Gerace was handing out assists on Friday night as the Xpress took down the Roc City Royals. Gerace finished the night with five assists and a plus-5 rating. The following night, Gerace passed out two more helpers but ended up finding the back of the night twice himself including the game winner. From Jamestown, New York, Gerace completed the weekend with a plus-9 rating.

2nd Star: Jeremy Schwartz, F, Metro Jets

Frontier Division Star of the Week: Drew Scites, Goalie, Great Falls Americans

Great Falls goaltender Drew Scites is making one heck of an impression on his new teammates. Newly acquired by the Americans, Scites has allowed just two goals in three starts. Last weekend Scites was almost perfect allowing just one goal in each of his team’s two wins. The 19-year old stopped 28 shots at Gillette on Friday night before stopping all seven shooters he faced in the shootout. He followed that effort up by stopping another 33 shots in a 5-1 victory. For the weekend, Scites posted a .96 goals against average and a .968 save percentage.

2nd Star: Kaden Lindberg, F, Helena Bighorns

Midwest Division Star of the Week: Dante Jones, Forward, St. Louis Jr. Blues

The 18-year old forward had the best pair of games this season as he turned in an eight point effort in two games against Evansville. Saturday night, Jones had four helpers and was a plus-5. The following night he visited the red light district twice and added another two assists for back-to-back four point games. The Toronto, Ontario native was a plus-10 for the weekend.

Northeast Division Star of the Week: Dominik Bogdziul, Forward, Binghamton Junior Senators

Dominik Bogdziul continues to light it up in his return to the NA3HL. The Latvian forward now has points in all seven games he’s played in this season. Bogdziul had been very good at setting up his teammates as he collected five assists this weekend in a weekend split with the Pittsburgh Vengeance. The 19-year old did pick up his third goal of the season in Saturday’s 6-1 win as well. Bogdziul has 22 points in seven games this year.

2nd Star: Stephen Minichiello, F, Niagara Falls PowerHawks

Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Eddie Cannon, F, Oswego Stampede – Rich Hart, D, Oswego Stampede – Ryan Riefler, F, Binghamton Junior Senators, Brandon Schweickert, D, Niagara Falls PowerHawks

 

South Division Star of the Week: Dillon Steh, Forward, Atlanta Capitals

Dillon Steh extended his current point streak to four as the Atlanta forward picked up a hat trick on Thursday against College Station. He also added two assists to that effort to finish the game with five points. He added another goal on Friday to finish the weekend with six points. The Alpharetta, Georgia native picked up a shorthanded goal and a game winning goal during his team’s sweep.

2nd Star: Carson Murison, G, Texas Brahmas

Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Vito Carlo, D, Atlanta Capitals – Michael Redmon, F, Texas Brahmas

 

West Division Star of the Week: Jared Fladebo, Forward, Breezy Point North Stars

The captain of the Breezy Point North Stars carried his team to a victory on Friday night. He scored two goals including the game winner in a 6-5 victory over the Willmar Warhawks. The Mahtomedi, Minnesota native also added an assist in the win as well. The leading scorer for Breezy Point now has nine goals and 28 assists to give him 37 points in 34 games.
