NA3HL announces Bauer Divisional Stars of the Week

The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey for the week ending March 4, 2018. The divisional stars of the week is an award given each week of the regular season to the top performing players in each of the eight divisions of the NA3HL as nominated by their head coaches.

 

Central Division Star of the Week: Trevor Timm, Forward, Wisconsin Whalers

The Wisconsin Whalers only saw the ice once this past week but Trevor Timm left no doubt as to who was the best player on the ice. On Sunday against Wausau, the forward from Wabasha, Minnesota found the back of the net twice and dished out three assists in the Whaler victory. It was a season high in terms of points for the Wisconsin forward. For the season, Timm has seven goals and seven assists in 36 games played this season. He finished Sunday’s game with a plus-6 rating.

2nd Star: Dan Sandvig, F, North Iowa Bulls

Coastal Division Star of the Week: Tyler Webb, Forward, Maine Wild

The Maine Wild are gearing up for a playoff run, they’ll need their top players playing their best in order to knock off the top ranked New England Stars. Tyler Webb is getting hot at the right time as the Wild forward had a hand in every goal in their 4-1 win against the Northeast Generals. A native of Hamden, Maine, Webb scored the first goal of Sunday’s contest and then set up his teammates for the other three goals. He finished the weekend with a plus-3 rating. This season, Webb has scored 25 goals and has 31 assists in 44 games played.

East Division Star of the Week: Sean Finstrom, Goalie, Lansing Wolves

It was a perfect weekend for the Lansing netminder as Sean Finstrom didn't allow a goal in either of his team’s games this past weekend. On Friday night, the native of Wixon, Michigan stopped 36 shots in a big Lansing win. The following night, Finstrom once again stopped every shot the Cherokee threw at him. He made 16 saves to pick up his second shutout of the weekend. Coming off an appearance at the NA3HL Top Prospects event, Finstrom now has six shutouts on the year and improved his record to 16-8. His goals against average now sits at 1.91 and he has a .934 save percentage.

Frontier Division Star of the Week: Riley Buller, Forward, Yellowstone Quake

The leading scorer for the Yellowstone Quake had another great weekend as his team wrapped up a Frontier Division regular season title. On Friday in Gillette, the forward Colorado Springs, netted a goal and an assist in his team’s 4-2 victory. He followed that up with a sensational performance on Saturday against the Bozeman Icedogs. Buller led all skaters with seven points, three goals and four assists, in the win that clinched the division for Yellowstone. The Quake forward is currently fourth in the NA3HL with 90 points.

Midwest Division Star of the Week: Hunter Smith, Goalie, St. Louis Jr. Blues

The St. Louis Jr. Blues are hoping this could be the year where they finally get over the hump and bring home a Fraser Cup. Hunter Smith is doing everything in his power to make that goal, a reality. Getting ready for the Fraser Cup Playoffs, Smith helped his team knock off the Atlanta Capitals on Friday night. From Flower Mound, Texas, Smith stopped 30 of 33 shots en route to a St. Louis 6-3 victory. With the win, he improved to 14-3 this season and now has a goals against average of 2.76 and .899 save percentage.

Northeast Division Star of the Week: Craig Garrigan, Forward, Skylands Kings

Garrigan, 19, is on fire for the Skylands Kings. This past weekend he continued his current hot streak by putting up back-to-back multi-point performances. In both games this past weekend, Garrigan scored a goal and notched a pair of assists. He finished the two game series against Niagara Falls with six points and a plus-2 rating. The forward from Scotland had 13 points in his last three games and has three games with five points or more over the past month. In his second NA3HL season, Garrigan has 36 goals and 41 assists to give him 77 points.

2nd Star: Rich Hart, D, Oswego Stampede

South Division Star of the Week: Nick Sheridan, Forward, Mid Cities Jr. Stars

The top skater for the Mid Cities Jr. Stars had himself a phenomenal week as Mid Cities swept a three-game series against the College Station Spirit. Sheridan scored once and assisted on another in a win on Friday night. On Saturday, the Jr. Stars forward picked up his second hat trick of the year in another Mid Cities victory. In the final game of the series on Sunday, Sheridan found the back of the net once and picked up a pair of assists. After picking up eight points over the three games, Sheridan now has 62 points in 45 games this season.

2nd Star: Trey Rooney, F, Mid Cities Jr. Stars

West Division Star of the Week: Brenden Payne, Forward, Alexandria Blizzard

Brendan Payne is one of the hottest players in the NA3HL. After his latest performances this weekend, Payne extended his point streak to 12 games. On Friday at Rochester, Payne scored a season-high four goals while also picking up three assists in the big Blizzard win. On Saturday against Breezy Point, the Plainfield, Minnesota native potted two more goals and two assists to finish the weekend with 11 points. For the weekend, Payne was a plus-11 and now has 68 points for the year.
