Wisconsin forward McDermott signs NAHL tender
March 9, 2018
The Wisconsin Whalers of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward Jimmy McDermott has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Springfield Jr. Blues of the NAHL’s Midwest Division.
McDermott, 18, is in his second season playing junior hockey in the NA3HL, both of which have been with the Whalers. The 6’1/181 lbs. native of Dubuque, Iowa, is having his best career season so far in 2017-18 as he is 3rd in team scoring with 51 points (23 goals, 28 assists) in 43 regular season games to date.
McDermott was selected to and played in the 2018 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament for the NA3HL 18U Selects White team, where he recorded two points in three games played.
In 85 career NA3HL games, McDermott has 70 points.
Prior to playing in the NA3HL, McDermott played two seasons of high school hockey for the Dubuque Devils.
He is the first player from the Whalers this season to sign an NAHL tender.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 5, 2018.
