Binghamton wins regular season, Xpress qualify on final day

Joey Gerace had six points this weekend as the Southern Tier Xpress won all three of their games to qualify for the final playoff spot in the East Division.

Binghamton Junior Senators 4 @ Oswego Stampede 1-A pair of goals from Ryan Reifler helped the Binghamton Junior Senators to a 4-1 win over the Oswego Stampede. With the win, the Binghamton Junior Senators finished with the best regular season record in the NA3HL this season and will be the #1 overall season heading into the 2018 Fraser Cup Playoffs. Jeremy Wilber and Michael Padgeon also scored for the Junior Senators, while Eddie Cannon notched the only Oswego goal. Binghamton goaltender Colin Burgess made 15 saves, while Steven Kozikoski stopped 54 shots for the Stampede.
 
Roc City Royals 1 @ Southern Tier Xpress 11-The Southern Tier Xpress netted five goals in the first to set the pace for an 11-1 victory over the Roc City Royals. With the win and the Wooster Oilers loss, the Xpress claimed the 4th and final playoff spot in the East. Stuart Pearson (2), Chris Dusek (2), Michael Keller (2), Marks Mezsargs, Joey Gerace, Tommy Muecke, Austen Zimmerman, and Tristan Mock scored for the Xpress, while Hunter Reid notched the lone Royals’ goal. Southern Tier’s Brandon Heacock made 13 saves, while Frederick Peters made 27 saves for Roc City.
 
Long Beach Sharks 5 @ Skylands Kings 3-Tied after one, the Long Beach Sharks put the pressure on to defeat the Skylands Kings, 5-3. Ryan Sandberg (2), Ryan Gridley, Ben Bergman, and Dino Mukovoz scored for the Sharks, while Eric Vanderhoff, Sergei O’Sullivan, and Lionel Landry each found the back of the net for the Kings. Long Beach’s Ryan Cortez made 38 saves, while Mathias Yttereng stopped 30 shots for Skylands. 
 
L/A Nordiques 4 @ Maine Wild 3-A third period comeback led the L/A Nordiques to end their regular season with a 4-3 win over the Maine Wild. Colby Audette, JP Chauvin, Connor Kennedy, and Joshua Malone scored for the Nordiques, while Jeffrey Gratz, Robert Dysart, and Josh DeCarolis each netted one for the Wild. L/A’s Michael Eric made 33 saves, while Ben Jenkins stopped 41 shots in net for Maine. 
 
Northeast Generals 0 @ New England Stars 1 (SO) - Scoreless after sixty-five minutes of play, Hunter Norris scored the only goal of the game, resulting in a 1-0 win for the New England Stars over the Northeast Generals. New England’s Andrew Ghimpeteanu made 44 saves for the shutout, while Kyle Wagner stopped 34 shots for the Generals.
 
Wisconsin Whalers 4 @ St Louis Jr Blues 9-The St Louis Jr Blues scored four goals in the third to secure a 9-4 win over the Wisconsin Whalers. For the Jr Blues, Dante Jones (2), Jack Hazelton, Jack Hatton, Cameron McAtee (2), Ivan Galaguzov, Jake Cox, and John Shively all got on the scoreboard, while Zane Marshman, Jimmy McDermott, Sam Hanson, and Bryce Fisk each notched one for the Whalers. St Louis’ Blake Bjella stopped 15 shots, while Brendan Earls and Alex Hufford made 20 and 16 saves each for Wisconsin.
 
Atlanta Capitals 3 @ Point Mallard Ducks 4-Tied at three each, Point Mallard Duck Fletcher Chun netted a shootout goal to decide the game, 4-3, against the Atlanta Capitals. Joe Polcaro, Mason Evans, and Jason Kelly scored in regulation for the Ducks, while Cole Thomas Johnson, Gunner Moore, and Cole Warner notched one a piece for the Capitals. In net, Joey Bernardini made 30 saves for Point Mallard, while Kyle Konin and Elijah Gibbons racked up 4 and 26 stops each for Atlanta.
 
Mid Cities Jr Stars 4 @ Texas Brahmas 1-The Mid Cities Jr Stars held onto an early lead to defeat the Texas Brahmas, 4-1. Tyler Schulz, Nick Sheridan, Trey Rooney, and Remy Kesling scored for the Jr Stars, while Luke Bombardir notched one for the Brahmas. Mid Cities net minder Matthew Lenz made 26 saves, while Carson Murison stopped 24 shots for Texas. 
 
Wausau RiverWolves 0 @ North Iowa Bulls 15-The North Iowa Bulls maintained a strong offensive presence on their way to a 13-0 win over the Wausau RiverWolves. Josh Arnold (2), Jett Larson, Jarod Blackowiak, Peter Vestegen, Dan Sandvig, Aaron Swanson (2), Shane Bernhardson, Ivan Bogach, Dayton Honkanen, Tucker Kruse, Tyler Bump (2), and Mitch Dolter scored for the Bulls. North Iowa’s Tyler Hawk made 16 saves for the shutout win, while Christian Sanzottera and Jackson Fazendin made 28 and 16 saves each for Wausau. 
 
Peoria Mustangs 3 @ Wooster Oilers 0-A hat trick from Jack Radley decided the game in favor of the Peoria Mustangs, who defeated the Wooster Oilers 3-0. The loss knocked the Oilers out of the Fraser Cup Playoff race. Zack Freiburger stopped 20 shots for the Mustang shutout, while Michael Hubbard made 17 saves while in net for Wooster. 
 
Louisiana Drillers 4 @ College Station Spirit 2-The Louisiana Drillers held onto an early lead to defeat the College Station Spirit, 4-2. Joshua Jorajuria, Hayden Watzka, Brandon Morgan, and Zach Smith scored for the Drillers, while Zack Grunkemeyer and Peter Hastings netted one each for the Spirit. Louisiana’s Griffin Varricchio made 37 saves, while Ryan O’Toole stopped 65 shots for College Station.
