Alexandria defenseman Johnson signs NAHL tender
March 12, 2018
The Alexandria Blizzard of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that Top Prospects defenseman Peter Johnson has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Brookings Blizzard of the NAHL’s Central Division.
Johnson, 19, is in his first season of playing junior hockey in the NA3HL for the Blizzard. He began the season in the NAHL with the Minot Minotauros, playing in two games at the NAHL Showcase. He then joined Alexandria for the remainder of the 2017-18 regular season and has had a good rookie campaign.
In 44 NA3HL games this season, the 6’0/181 lbs. native of Dalton, Minnesota, has 30 points (8 games, 22 assists), which is 2nd among all Blizzard defensemen.
Johnson was also selected to and played in the 2018 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament for the 18U Selects Red Team, where he had an assist in three games played.
Prior to playing junior hockey this season, Johnson was a standout defenseman for Fergus Falls High School in Minnesota. He also played for Great Plains in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League.
He is the first player from the Alexandria Blizzard this season that has signed an NAHL tender.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 5, 2018.
