St. Louis forward Cox makes NCAA commitment

March 16, 2018
The St. Louis Jr. Blues, proud members of the NA3HL, are extremely pleased to announce that forward Jake Cox has committed to play NCAA Division II hockey at Southern New Hampshire University. The Penmen are located in Manchester, N.H. and play in the Northeast 10, a Division II conference.

Acquired by the Jr. Blues in October via a trade with the Point Mallard Ducks, the 5’9/175 lbs. native of Columbus, Georia, has continued his excellent form that has ben a constant feature of his four years in the NA3HL. With St. Louis, he has scored 29 goals and 26 assists in 35 games, including a goal against Atlanta on February 4 that set the all-time NA3HL league record for career goals at 98: he has since raised that total to 105.

“We were quite lucky to be able to get Jake as a player this year, and since his arrival in St. Louis he has been nothing short of excellent,” said Jr. Blues head coach Chris Flaugher. “He’s one of the hardest workers I’ve had the privilege to coach, has a great, positive attitude, and his stats speak for themselves. We know that he will be successful up at SNHU, and wish him nothing but the best of luck in Manchester.”

Before joining the Jr. Blues, Cox was a standout player for the Point Mallard Ducks, where he scored 173 career points, was selected for the Top Prospects Tournament three times, and was an integral part of the Ducks’ 2015-16 Fraser Cup Finals run. He also began the 2017-18 campaign in the NAHL with the Shreveport Mudbugs, where he played in four games.

Cox is also a veteran of three NA3HL Top Prospects Tournaments, having played in the event in 2015, 2016, and 2017.

“Our entire organization is excited for Jake as he takes the next step in his hockey career,” added Point Mallard head coach Tom Winkler. “I never had a doubt that Jake would achieve his goal of NCAA college hockey. He has earned this opportunity through his incredible work ethic. We congratulate Jake and his family in his achievement.”
