New Ulm forward Spaargaren gets call to NAHL

November 7, 2018
The New Ulm Steel of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward James Spaargaren was called up to the NAHL’s Chippewa Steel this past weekend. Spaargaren practiced with the team and saw some game time Saturday, when Chippewa shut out the Janesville Jets, 6-0.

“The games and practices were faster, from physicality, to passing, and just overall speed of the game. It was a really great experience to play with those players also. Everyone was very welcoming. The way the coaches ran practices were first class on and off the ice and I am grateful I was able to have that opportunity,” Spaargaren said.

The 18-year-old from San Diego, California, is currently averaging one point per game in the 10 games he’s played for New Ulm so far this season.

New Ulm’s assistant coach Nick Campbell commented, “We are very excited for James. He’s earned this opportunity and we are happy for him. James is a student of the game and really wants to grow and learn as a player. He works extremely hard everyday and does whatever it takes to get better. He’s a high character kid on and off the ice and we are glad he’s a part of the Steel organization.”

Prior to his time with the Steel organization, Spaargaren played for the T1EHL’s Colorado Rampage U18 and the NAPHL’s California Titans U18, California Titans U16, and the San Diego Gulls 16U.
