Egan named head coach of College Station Spirit

November 21, 2018
The College Station Spirit, proud members of the NA3HL, are pleased to announce that Ryan Egan has been named the team’s new head coach and general manager effective immediately.

“I am very excited about Ryan joining our program in College Station. I think his experience will lend itself well to the team and we look forward to using this as a stepping stone for improvement this season and the build for next year,” said College Station owner Don Stone.

Egan has over 10 years of experience as a head coach at the junior level, as well as, serving as an assistant coach at the NCAA level at Saint Mary’s University in Winona, Minnesota.

"I am excited for this new opportunity to work for and with Don Stone in College Station. I look forward to working with Don to create a program that will be a destination for players to develop and provide them with the outcome that they desire from there junior hockey experience,” said Egan.

After an NCAA career at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Egan began his coaching career with the Omaha Energy AAA program where he was Program Director and Head Coach. This program quickly became recognized as one of the top developmental programs in the USA.

From there, Egan moved on to guide the San Antonio Diablos (WSHL) where he compiled a very successful 63-32-5 record. Thanks to his success, an opportunity to coach at the NCAA level at Saint Mary’s University arose, where Egan coached for five seasons. Egan was responsible for recruiting prospective players for the team, daily skill development practice sessions, and creating film clips for player evaluation and individual development sessions.

Following his time at Saint Mary’s, Egan spent two years as head coach of the La Crosse Freeze in the NA3HL, and then was named the head coach for the Coulee Region Chill in the NAHL. During this first season in the NAHL (2016-17) the Chill set a franchise record for NCAA Division college commitments.
