Saturday Scores: Mustangs hand Grizzlies first loss of season

Gillette forward Austin Newson had eight points, including four goals on Saturday, in a weekend sweep.

Peoria Mustangs 2 @ Rochester Grizzlies 1 - Peoria got their revenge for Friday nights lost against as they handed the Grizzlies their first loss of the 2020-21 season. Rochester laid on the heat quickly with a goal from Peyton Hart. Peoria found their momentum in the second period and put in two goals by Jared Wisely and George Giese. Peoria was able to fight off Rochester in the third period to secure the win for themselves. Both teams' goaltenders did a phenomenal job. Cole Walter of Peoria stopped 36 of 37 shots. Zach Wiese of Rochester stopped 16 of 18 shots.

Butte Cobras 1 @ Gillette Wild 8 - The Butte Cobras put in a good effort but it was not enough to keep up with the Gillette Wild. Austin Newson of the Wild produced four goals tonight. Caleb Sanborn of the Wild put in two goals. The other two goals on the scoreboard were created by George Stilson and Declan Young. Tamer Billan was the only one on the Cobras that was able to get a puck pass, Connor Sullivan the Wild’s goaltender.

Missoula Junior Bruins 6 @ Helena Bighorns 2 - This was a back and forth match up. Austin Franck of Missoula was the first to get one into the net. Following behind him for the Junior Bruins was: Liam Bland, Ian McIntosh, Pablo Frank. Bland and McIntosh both had two goals on the night. The Helena Bighorns goals were created by Wyatt Barton and Harlan Wojtuski. Miley Owen of Missoula had the most points on the night with four assists.

Bozeman Icedogs 1 @ Sheridan Hawks 8 - The Sheridan Hawks did not hold back one bit in this game against the Bozeman Icedogs. Kadyn Fennell put in the only goal for the Icedogs. Justin Schwartzmiller of the Hawks was unstoppable as he earned himself four goals. The other four goals for the Hawks were obtained by Logan Syrup, Zach Brydges, Joe Teasdale, and Blake Billings.

Oklahoma City Blazers 3 @ Texas RoadRunners 2 (SO) - Blazers swept their weekend against the RoadRunners.  Both teams battled in the first period but no one was able to produce anything. Noah Henslee was the first to the net; he created a goal for the Blazers. Tucker Lien of the Blazers also put one in six minutes later. Jacob Norwood of the RoadRunners finally got his team on the scoreboard. Nick Lucas of the RoadRunners ties up the game. Just like the first period no one was able to produce anything during the overtime. Tristan Warr puts the cherry on the night with a shootout goal. Warr brings home the W for the Blazers.

Milwaukee Power 6 @ Wausau RiverWolves 1 - Milwaukee was quick to drive up the score tonight as they were not going to let the score be as close as the game on Friday. For the Power Teddy Marion scored two, Trey Bess scored two, Maxwell Erstad scored one, and Steven Delikat scored one. The solo goal for the RiverWolves was obtained by JJ Martin. Jackson Broussard, the goaltender for Milwaukee did a fantastic job saving 17/18 shots on net.

Alexandria Blizzard 5 @ Willmar WarHawks 6 - Willmar dominated the first period with two goals from Louis Anders and Austin Jozwick. Alexandria quickly matched that with goals from Kaden Peterson and Austin McNeil. Ethan Light of Willmar found his opportunity for a point and he took it. Alexandria again quickly matched with a goal of their own by Dallas Duckson. Louis Anders gets his second goal of the night for Willmar. Then Dallas Duckson as well got his second goal of the night for Alexandria. Michael DeBrito of Alexandria finally locks down a goal to gain the lead. Willmar finished up the game with two final goals from Cole Wigestrand and Kaleb Miller.

Great Falls Americans 6 @ Yellowstone Quake 3 - Another great weekend for the Americans as they continue their season undefeated. The game could go either way for a long time but then toward the third period the Americans showed their dominance. Great Falls goals from: Henry Chavez, Tommy Janes, Harley Nyhuis, Jack Hayes, and Bryson Fletcher. Jake Hayes created two of the six goals tonight. The goals for the Quake were scored by Cade Rosansky, Jack Harris, and Logan Brown. Logan Brown’s goal was his first of the season.
