NA3HL announces Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey
The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey for the week ending December 6, 2020. The divisional stars of the week are awards given each week of the regular season to the top-performing players in each of the five divisions of the NA3HL as nominated by their head coaches.
Central Division Star of the Week: Owen Carlson, G, St. Louis Jr. Blues
Carlson saw the ice in two games this week, winning one and making a relief appearance in the other with 50 total saves along the way. After a tough start for the Jr. Blues in Friday’s loss to Oregon, Carlson stepped in and was perfect with 18 saves on 18 shots, setting the stage for an impressive win over the Tradesmen on Saturday. The Esko, MN native put aside 32 of 34 pucks that came his way for a .941 save percentage — good for a .961 in that category across the weekend. Carlson is now 3-3-1 on the year, with a 2.77 GAA and .934 save percentage in eight appearances between the pipes.
2nd Star: Sam VanderHoeven, F, Oregon Tradesmen
Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Dylan Dent, D, Oregon Tradesmen — Heath Drye, F, Peoria Mustangs — Vinny Servizzi, F, St. Louis Jr. Blues — Cole Shane, G, Milwaukee Power — Cole Walter, G, Peoria Mustangs
East Division Star of the Week: Zack Roncarati, G, Bay State Bobcats
Much like St. Louis’ Carlson, Roncarati’s stellar week began with some relief action following a slow start for the Bobcats. In Friday’s loss, Roncarati played over 53 minutes despite not starting the contest, and stopped a whopping 52 of 55 shots in that span. On Saturday, he carried over his steady crease presence with a second consecutive 50+ save performance, this time turning away 53 of 56 to backstop a Bobcats win. His 105 total saves on the weekend mark a season high in any back-to-back outings for the second-year netminder, and his 3.18/.946% weekend stat line pushes his season totals to a 3.19 GAA and .933 save percentage with a 2-2-0 record in starts.
2nd Star: Austin Crisp, D, Northeast Generals
Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Zakary Justice, F, Bay State Bobcats
Frontier Division Star of the Week: Zach Brydges, F, Sheridan Hawks
One of many Hawks off to a great start this season, Brydges rebounded from his first goose-egg of the year on Nov. 28 with six points in two wins over Yellowstone this week. After nabbing an assist in Friday’s win, Brydges took center stage with his second multi-goal game of the season as he posted four goals and another helper to pace Sheridan’s Saturday victory. Now in his third year of Junior hockey, Brydges has posted 10g-8a—18pts in nine games as a veteran presence on the high-flying Hawks roster.
2nd Star: Trever Mellen, G, Great Falls Americans
Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Henry Chavez, F, Great Falls Americans — Joseph Teasdale, F, Sheridan Hawks
South Division Star of the Week: Cole Schneider, F, El Paso Rhinos
Schneider was a constant threat despite an up-and-down weekend for the Rhinos, who split a back-to-back against the RoadRunners. On Friday, Schneider factored in on both El Paso tallies with a goal and an assist in their loss. Building off of that impressive effort, Schneider then bagged two goals — including the GWG — and two assists to pace the Rhinos’ win in the second tilt. After being held off the scoresheet in his first game of the year, Schneider has found the scoresheet in each outing since, recording 6g-5a—11pts on his current six-game streak.
2nd Star: Jaxon Taylor, G, Texas RoadRunners
