Brahmas defenseman Palfy signs NAHL tender

January 26, 2021

The Texas Brahmas of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that defenseman Matej Palfy has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender agreement with the Minnesota Wilderness of the NAHL’s Central Division.

Palfy, 19, is a three-season veteran of the Texas Brahmas, totaling 73 points (23 goals, 50 assists) in 98 NA3HL games played. The 6’8/225 lbs. native of Kosice, Slovakia, played a pivotal role in the 2019 Fraser Cup championship run, contributing five points in eight games. He was also named to the NA3HL All-South Division team in 2019-20 and named the South Division Defenseman of the Year.

“I am really excited for this opportunity which the Minnesota Wilderness provided me and I am very happy that I will be joining such a great organization,” said Palfy, regarding his tender. “This has been my goal for a long time, but the hard work doesn’t stop here.”

Palfy is an outstanding two-way player, ranking within the top-scoring defenseman, on the team and across the league, during his tenure on the Brahmas. He currently has a +92 rating and averages 0.74 points per game. Palfy also has experience playing for the U16 and U18 National Team in Slovakia.

So far during the 2020-21 season, he has recorded three points in five games.

“This is a great day for Matej,” said head coach of the Brahmas, Ryan Anderson. “Our club was so excited to get him back over for the second half of the year and for this to happen so soon for him is unbelievable. Matej has worked incredibly hard during his time with the Brahmas, each year he has added layers to his game and I look forward to watching his continued development next season under Coach Vaillancourt.”

A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which includes one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the 2021 NAHL Draft.
