Saturday Scores: Hawks win Frontier and extend winning streak

Rochester goalie Shane Soderwall tied for the NA3HL shutout lead with his 5th shutout of the season on Saturday night.

Missoula 2 @ Sheridan 4 – The Hawks clinched the Frontier Division regular season title thanks to a 4-2 win over the Jr. Bruins. The win was the Hawks’ 28th straight. Missoula jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a 1st period goal from Pablo Frank. The Hawks then scored three straight goals from Blake Billings, Brice French, and Zach Brydges to take a 3-1 lead. Missoula cut into the lead in the 3rd period on a goal from Shane Dotto, but a goal later in the period from Jack Harris secured the 4-2 win. Hawks goalie Christian Wong-Ramos made 22 saves in the win, while Maxim Currie made 41 saves in the loss.

Rochester 4 @ Milwaukee 0 – Shane Soderwall stopped all 22 shots that came his way to tie for the NA3HL shutout lead with his 5th shutout of the season thanks to a 4-0 win on Saturday. Justin Wright had two goals for Rochester, which included the game’s first goal in the 1st period and last goal in the 3rd period. Sandwiched in between were 2nd period goals from Matthew DeRosa and Collin Pederson.

Alexandria 0 @ North Iowa 7 – The Bulls claimed the West Division’s first playoff spot as they cruised to a 7-0 win over the Blizzard. Caden Smith had a hat-trick for the Bulls, which included the game’s first two goals in the 1st period, along with another in the 3rd period. Jac Triemert scored twice and Garrett Freeman and Carson Jones also scored in the win. Bulls goalie Evan Babekuhl posted his first shutout of the season, stopping all 24 shots, while Joey Greilich made 27 saves in the loss.

Oklahoma City 1 @ El Paso 2 (OT) – Rhinos goalie Ryan Nocerino made 35 saves to lead his team to a 2-1 win to complete a weekend sweep of the Blazers. The Blazers jumped ahead 1-0 thanks to a 1st period goal from Alex Walker. The Rhinos tied the game in the 2nd period thanks to a power play goal from Cole Schneider. In overtime, John Mulvihill netted his 20th goal of the season for the game-winner as the Rhinos winning streak reached five straight games. Blazers goalie Olivier Charbonneau made 17 saves in the loss.

Butte 0 @ Helena 8 – The Bighorns got a 47-save shutout from Anthony Adleman as they cruised to an 8-0 win on Saturday. The Bighorns got three goals in the 1st period, which included two from Corey Miscovich and another from Gavyn Galloway. Andrew MacCallum, Dylan Ferriera and Tylor Greene all scored in the 2nd period, and Andrew Deskin and Luke Theisen added 3rd period goals. Butte goalie Skyler Coard made 43 saves in the loss.

Bozeman 1 @ Great Falls 0 (OT) – In a goaltender’s duel, the Icedogs came out on top thanks to a 46-save shutout from Brandon Keeney in a 1-0 overtime win over the Americans. Trever Mellen played very well in the loss, allowing just a single goal on 52 Bozeman shots. The game-winner came late in overtime as Kadyn Fennell netted his 11th goal of the season.

Gillette 3 @ Yellowstone 6 – Jack Luttringer had two goals and an assist as the Quake picked up a 6-3 win over the Wild. Yellowstone jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Luttringer, Max Jacoshenk, and Austin Lawless. The Wild then tied the game with three straight goals in the 2nd period from Declan Young, Caleb Sanborn, and Mitchell Vekich. In the 3rd period, the Quake pulled away with three goals, including another from Luttringer and others from Dylan Rumpke and Keegan Ferguson. Matt Schoer made 38 saves in the win, while Connor Sullivan made 36 saves in the loss.

Bobcats 1 @ Titans 4 – Brandon Avezov scored twice to lead the Titans to a 4-1 win over the Bobcats. Bay State jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal late in the 1st period from Ian Skinner. However, it was all Titans after that as they dominated the 2nd period with four goals in a nine-minute span, including two from Avezov and others from Tanner Smith and Philippe Doucette. Titans goalie Grant Goodson made 16 saves in the win, while Nathan Moffitt made 30 saves in the loss.

Peoria 1 @ St. Louis 3 – Jr. Blues goalie Danny Fraga made 36 saves to lead the Jr. Blues over the visiting Mustangs in a Central battle. The Jr. Blues took a 2-0 lead in the 1st period with goals from Tony Andrews and Matt McGowan. Peoria got to within one goal thanks to a goal early in the 3rd period from Thomas Kayner, but an empty-net goal from Vinny Servizzi secured the 3-1 win.  Peoria goalie Cole Walter made 26 saves in the loss.

Granite City 4 @ Willmar 5 – The WarHawks maintained control of 2nd place in the West thanks to a come-from-behind win over the Lumberjacks. Granite City led 4-1 after two periods as Carson Simon scored twice and Braeden Bartoo and Brockston Masseth also scored, while Isaiah Thomas had the lone goal for Willmar. The WarHawks mounted a furious comeback in the 3rd period, which included an early goal from Kaleb Miller and then three power play goals in a two minute span late in the game, including two from Lewis Rowan and another from Dylan Gajewski to secure the win. Willmar goalie Will Pinney made 32 saves in the win, while Bailey Huber made 46 saves in the loss.

Oregon 7 @ Wausau 4 – Sam VanderHoeven had a hat-trick to pace the Tradesmen to a 7-4 win over the RiverWolves. VanderHoeven scored twice in the 1st period and again in the 2nd period. Parker Severson also had two goals and Jacob Best and Henry Slager also scored in the win. Griffin Lehet, Tommy Raith, Richard Zupan, and Ethan Cumming scored in the losing effort for the RiverWolves. Hunter Adams made 24 saves in the win, while Caleb Sauer made 36 saves in the loss.
