Saturday Scores: WarHawks win part of weekend sweeps

Bozeman forward Grayden Pond had four goals in the weekend sweep of Yellowstone as the Icedogs extended their winning streak to four.

Wausau 0 @ Willmar 4: Will Kunka stopped all 21 shots that he faced to give Willmar a 4-0 shutout victory over the Cyclones. Anthony Foster opened the scoring for Willmar with a goal less than two minutes in and Ben Leudtke added another goal before the opening intermission. After a scoreless 2nd period, Teddy Kluesner and Elbridge Dekraai each found the back of the net in the 3rd to extend the lead. Zach Dosan stopped 31 shots between the pipes in the loss for Wausau. 

Yellowstone 2 @ Bozeman 5: Bozeman controlled the tempo from the opening two periods, leading the quake by a score of 3-0 in their victory over Yellowstone. Grayden Pond had a key performance on offense for the Icedogs, scoring twice in their victory. Luke Busher, Jaden Aguilera, and Ian Bowman tallied the other goals for Bozeman, Bowman also dishing a pair of assists in the effort. Jack Harris and Gustov Ostman were the goalscorers for Yellowstone however netminder Liam Scott stopped 24 shots in his victory for Bozeman. Edvin Falkenstrom was dealt the loss while making 37 stops. 

St. Louis 4 @ Peoria 8: Jake Ratner, Justin Hubble, and Thomas Kayner each lit the lamp twice in Peoria’s 8-4 victory over the Jr. Blues. The Mustangs carried a 4-0 lead to the 1st intermission thanks to two scores from Ratner and goals from Hubble and Tristan Trudel. Thomas Kayner, Hubble, Kayner, and Jaycob Bland each found the back of the net in the 2nd to add to the lead. For the visitors, Kelly Coldwater potted a pair of goals while John Dapron and Tyler Williams each added a score for the Jr. Blues. Espen Reager and Brendan Cobb split time in net for St. Louis, combining for 54 saves. Andrew Doran secured the victory between the pipes with 18 saves. 

Minnesota 1 @ Granite City 14: Zak Kennet and Tal Halliday led the offensive charge for Granite City, both contributing a hat trick in the Lumberjacks’ 14-1 victory Saturday night. Sixteen Granite City skaters found the points sheet in the victory with other notable multiple point performances from Brock Masseth, Carson Van Zuilen, Brett Reed, and Ben Anderson. Ben Tarlton also scored his first goal of the season in the victory. Xavier Brooks scored his 4th of the season for Minnesota and the first goal of the game to break up Quentin Sigurdson’s shutout. Sigurdson completed the victory with 8 saves while Matthew Ryynanen was dealt the loss with 44 saves. 

Alexandria 5 @ New Ulm 2: Cole Klingbeil tickled the twine 13:56 into the 2nd period, eventually leading to the game-winning goal in Alexandria’s victory over the Steel. Ryan Hadland and Matt McIntyre opened the scores for Alexandria, leading them to a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes. Cole Klingbell added another on the scoresheet in the 2nd period, Colby Nickel and Benjamin Tschida each adding insurance goals in the 3rd. New Ulm’s goals came from Sam Levin and Jack Laser, bringing Andrew Tuttle’s final save total to 28 in his victory. Zach Foster was dealt the loss between the pipes with 59 saves. 

Great Falls 0 @ Gillette 5: Jake Turek had a stellar performance in the blue paint, stopping all 29 shots to give Gillette a 5-0 shutout victory over Great Falls. Will Blake and Tucker Lien each had an outstanding offensive performance, scoring once and dishing two assist in the victory. Declan Young, Carson Kuche, and Saizha Norwegian were the other goal scorers, Norwegian and Young each scoring on the powerplay. Will Simpson had a busy night between the pipes for Great Falls, stopping 50 shots in the loss. 

Butte 1 @ Helena 6: Helena’s offensive prowess proved to be too much for Butte to handle, beating the Cobras by a final score of 6-1 and continuing their unbeaten streak in the league. Helena scored a trio of goals in the 1st period as Logan Matheny scored once and Liam Bland potted a pair of goals. Tyler Bloom, Andrew MacCallum, and Tylor Greene would each light the lamp in the remaining periods to extend the lead past the Cobras. Nick Bradshaw found the back of the net to break up Eric Buchholz’s shutout victory. Buchholz completed the victory with 25 saves and Nikolai Wallery did all he could in net for Butte, making 59 saves in the loss. 

Badlands 5 @ Sheridan 4: The Badlands Sabres managed to complete the weekend sweep over Sheridan in a tight fought 5-4 victory Saturday night. Sheridan held a 2-0 victory halfway through the 2nd period thanks to goals from Taylor Frerichs and Makhai Sparks. Seth Stock and Zach Vockler answered with goals for the Sabres to keep the contest even at two a piece through 40 minutes. Mason Friedricks scored early for the Hawks and Frerichs scored his second of the game to give a convincing two goal lead for Sheridan halfway through the final period. Adam Kahpeaysewat, Hunter Fischbach, and Zach Vockler each scored within the last 10 minutes of regulation for Badlands to provide them a comeback victory over Sheridan. Between the pipes, Zach Broxterman took the victory with 47 saves while Thomas Kuriscak was dealt the loss with 27 stops.
