Granite City goalie Smith gets call to the NAHL

December 27, 2021

The Granite City Lumberjacks of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that goaltender Matthew Smith has been called up to the Minnesota Wilderness in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

Smith, 19, began this season with Springfield in the NAHL. While with the Jacks so far during the 2021-22 season, Smith has gone a perfect 11-0 in 11 starts. He has posted a 1.09 goals against average, a .942 Save Percentage, and four shutouts.

“We are super excited that Matt is getting another chance in the NAHL. We look forward to seeing his success at the next level,” said Granite City head coach Brad Wilner.

Smith is one of four Lumberjacks who have been moved up to the NAHL so far season season. He joins Hayden Hennen, Nick Stevens, and Jacob Hicks who are all still with their respective NAHL teams.

Smith, who is also an NAPHL grad, allowed just two goals in two games at the NA3HL Showcase as the Lumberjacks went undefeated with a 3-0 record.
