NAHL Weekend Round-up: Alaska wins three

Aberdeen Wings:  The Wings dropped a pair of one-goal games in a home-and-home series with Alexandria this past weekend.  On Saturday, the Wings came back from a 3-0 deficit, but lost the game in OT.  The two losses brought Aberdeen back into a 3rd place tie with the Blizzard in the Central Division.

Alaska Avalanche:  The Avalanche made a big statement by sweeping a three-game home set over the visiting Fresno Monsters.  The Avalanche goaltending tandem of Nick Kulmanovsky and Bodhi Engum combined to allow just three goals on the weekend.

Alexandria Blizzard:  The Blizzard swept a home-and-home weekend set with the Aberdeen Wings and now sit in a 3rd place tie in the Central.  Forward Charlie Aus had the overtime winner on Saturday as the Blizzard winning streak now sits at three.

Amarillo Bulls:  The Bulls remained atop of the South Division standings with two home wins over Topeka and Wichita Falls over the weekend.  Forward Brooks Behling led the way for Amarillo with a four-point weekend.

Austin Bruins: The Bruins split a weekend road series at Bismarck over the weekend, helping them stay in 2nd place in the Central Division.  After a 3-1 loss on Friday night, the Bruins rebounded with a 3-0 shutout win on Saturday thanks to 38 saves from Nicholas Lehr.

Bismarck Bobcats:  The Bobcats remain in 1st place in the Central after a weekend home split with Austin.  Friday, the Bobcats got 30 saves from Tommy Burke and goals from three different players in a 3-1 win, before being shutout the next night, 3-0.

Chicago Hitmen:  The Hitmen were swept in a weekend road series against the Jamestown Ironmen.  After suffering a 7-1 loss on Friday, the Hitmen played a much better game on Saturday, just falling short in a 4-3 overtime loss.  Goalie Kick Kohn made 57 saves to give the Hitmen a point.

Corpus Christi IceRays:  The IceRays offense exploded for 16 goals in two weekend games at home as they swept the New Mexico Mustangs.  The scoring was very balanced both nights for the IceRays, who now sit a game over .500 and in 4th place in the South Division.

Coulee Region Chill:  The Chill took three of four points in a weekend home series against the Minot Minotauros.  Friday, goaltender Aaron Davis made 36 saves for a 3-0 shutout win.  Saturday, the Chill gained a point in a 4-3 overtime loss.

Dawson Creek Rage: Off

Fairbanks Ice Dogs:  The defending champs are picking up right where they left off with two more home wins this past week over the Fresno Monsters.  Forward JT Osborn had both game-winning goals as Fairbanks increased its lead in the West and remain one of just two teams without a regulation loss.

Fresno Monsters:  It was a tough and grueling week for the Monsters who lost five games in five days in their trip through Alaska.  The Monsters scored just seven goals in the five games, but remain in 2nd place in the West Division, as the five losses were their first of the year in regulation.

Jamestown Ironmen:  The Ironmen posted a weekend sweep over the Chicago Hitmen this weekend.  Four of the Ironmen’s five wins have come against Chicago.  Anthony Coles was the big star scoring a hat-trick on Friday and adding two assists on Saturday.

Janesville Jets: Off

Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings:  The Jr. K-Wings continued their hot play with a weekend home-and-home sweep of the Port Huron Fighting Falcons.  Robbie Payne and Andrew Graves led the way offensive for Kalamazoo, who have now won five straight games and sit in 2nd place in the North Division.

Kenai River Brown Bears: Off

Michigan Warriors:  The Warriors stayed in 1st place in the North Division with road wins over Port Huron and Traverse City this past week.  Goaltender Brach Tiller got both wins in goal including a 14-man shootout win over Traverse City on Saturday.

Minot Minotauros:  After dropping the first game on Friday, Minot rebounded with their second win of the season on Saturday, as the beat the Coulee Region Chill in overtime.  Derek Tylka had the overtime winner on Saturday for Minot.

New Mexico Mustangs:  The Mustangs defensive struggles continued after they were swept on the road at Corpus Christi.  On Friday, the Mustangs fell 8-7 as forward Evan Johnston had three points.  Saturday, the Mustangs Eric Fletcher scored the lone goal in a 8-1 loss.

Odessa Jackalopes:  The Jackalopes split a weekend road series at Wenatchee this past weekend.  Goaltender Connor Hellebuyck continues to be the early star for the Jacks, as he stopped 52 of 54 shots on the weekend including all 31 in a 1-0 shutout win on Saturday night.

Port Huron Fighting Falcons:  After beating Traverse City on Wednesday, Port Huron lost the next three games of the weekend to Michigan and Kalamazoo.  Forward Easton Powers had a four point week as the Fighting Falcons remain in 3rd place in the North Division.

Springfield Jr. Blues: Off

St. Louis Bandits: Off

Texas Tornado:  All three Tornado games this past weekend ended in 4-3 finals.  The Tornado lone win came on Saturday against Topeka.  Both 4-3 losses against Wichita Falls on Friday and Topeka on Sunday came in overtime, earning the Tornado at least a point in all three games as they remain in 2nd place.

Topeka RoadRunners:  After a loss to Amarillo on Friday and Texas on Saturday, the RoadRunners rebounded for a 4-3 overtime win on Sunday over the Tornado.  Topeka trailed 3-0 in the game, but Gage Hough scored the OT winner to complete the comeback.

Traverse City North Stars: Traverse City dropped two games over the week.  On Wednesday, they fell to Port Huron, 6-2.  On Saturday, they took a point in a close 4-3 overtime loss to Michigan.  Chris Waterstreet had a pair of goals in the loss.

Wenatchee Wild:  The Wild split a pair of weekend home games against the Odessa Jackalopes.  On Friday, goaltender Robert Nichols posted his third shutout in four starts making 31 saves in a 2-0 win.  On Saturday, the Wild were edged 1-0 as Greg Lewis made 16 saves.

Wichita Falls Wildcats: The Wildcats split a weekend pair of games as they beat Texas in overtime at home on Friday, but dropped a close 3-2 decision at Amarillo on Saturday.  Dennis Kravchenko scored the OT win on Friday.  Tyler Green played well in goal in both games for the Wildcats.
