Pool A, Round-Robin: Northeast 3 vs. Gillette 2 – Thanks to a hat-trick from forward Nolan Zotter, the Northeast Generals punched their ticket to the Fraser Cup Semi-Finals and won Pool A thanks to a 3-2 win over the Wild on Thursday. The Generals conclude pool play at 2-0 and will await the 2nd place finisher from Pool B in the Semi-Finals on Saturday. Just over five minutes into the game, Zotter collected the first goal of the game as he pounced on a rebound and loose puck that had snuck behind Wild goalie Jack Orchard to make it 1-0. The Wild would respond less than a minute later to tie the game at 1-1 as Alex Duchemin picked up a rebound in the crease and put a shot over sprawled Generals goalie Mason Joseph. Before the period was over, it was Zotter again showing off some slick hands as he rushed up the ice and beat the Wild defenseman 1-on-1 with a slick dangle to make it 2-1. Midway through the 2nd period, Zotter netted his hat-trick as he converted on a 2-on-1 pass from Nicholas Wracker to make it 3-1 at the end of two periods. In the 3rd period, the Wild tried to make a comeback late in the game and cut the lead down to 3-2 on a goal from Carson Kuche, but could not find the equalizer in the game’s dying seconds. Joseph made 32 saves in the win, while Orchard made 21 saves in the loss. At 0-1, the Wild will face the Rochester Grizzlies on Friday, who are also 0-1, with the second spot in the Semi-Finals on the line from Pool A.

Pool B, Round-Robin: Granite City 5 vs. El Paso 0 – A four-goal 2nd period and 64-13 shots advantage led the Granite City Lumberjacks to a 5-0 win over the El Paso Rhinos on Day 2 of the Fraser Cup. After a scoreless 1st period in which Granite City continued to struggle to find the back of the net thanks to the hot goaltending of Rhinos goalie Camden Pendleton, the Lumberjacks would erupt for four goals in the 2nd period to put the game out of reach. First, Cody Dias converted on a 2-on-1 to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead. Six minutes later, defenseman Tal Halliday walked through the defense in the high slot and wristed a shot home for a 2-0 lead. Three minutes after that, the Granite City pressure continued, this time with Nicholas Richert smashing home a one-timer from the side of the cage for a 3-0 lead. With just over a minute remaining in the period, the Lumberjacks made it 4-0 as Coby Weber was the beneficiary of a nice pass from behind the net by Andrew Butler. The Lumberjacks would add one more goal in the 3rd period as Luke Delzer put home a nice shorthanded goal to make the final 5-0. Lumberjacks goalie Quentin Sigurdson made 13 saves in the shutout win. Pendleton played admirably in the loss, making 59 saves. Granite City is now done with round-robin play with a 1-1 record and +3 goal differential. They will have to await the result of the Helena vs. El Paso game on Friday so see how Pool B shakes out.
