El Paso defenseman Olson makes college commitment

May 3, 2022

The El Paso Rhinos of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that defenseman Jack Olson has committed to play ACHA Division I hockey for Midland University.

Olson, 21, just completed his first season playing in the NA3HL and fourth season of junior hockey overall. The 6’1/190 lbs. native of Calgary, AB, recorded 21 points (8 goals, 13 assists) in 36 regular season games played in 2021-22.

Olson also had three points in seven Fraser Cup Playoff games.

Olson also made his NAHL debut during the 2021-22 season, playing in one game with the NAHL’s Rhinos on January 15, 2022.

“Because of his commitment to teamwork, Jack brought leadership and stability to the team. He worked hard, led by example, and had a passion for the game. Not only did his own hockey skills improve drastically this season, Jack was the reason the younger defensemen also grew as hockey players throughout the season. He was a huge asset to the Rhinos’ defensive unit, a role model for his teammates and, in the future, his impact will go far beyond any hockey rink,” said Rhinos head Coach Nick Mammel.

Located in Fremont, Nebraska, Midland’s hockey team is an ACHA – DI program. Olson will play under Interim Head Coach and former Rhino, Jan Dam. Midland University is also the alma mater of Blake Ortman, the El Paso Rhinos NAHL Assistant Coach.
