Bay State Bobcats

Head Coach: Robert Lane

2021-22 record: 47 GP, 15-30-2, 32 pts. (4th in the East Division)

2021-22 leading scorer: Will Cormie (46 points)

2022 Playoffs: Lost to Northeast in the East Division Semi-Finals, 2-0

2022-23 Division: East

The Bay State Bobcats had an up and down season as they were able to squeak into the Fraser Cup Playoffs as the fourth seed within the East Division. Unfortunately, they had to play the number one seed in the Northeast Generals who ended up sweeping the Bobcats in the first round of the playoffs.

During the off-season the Bobcats appointed a new head coach in Robert Lane. He is now the 5th coach in team history and comes from a background of serving in the military for 30 Years.

Throughout his coaching career Lane has been known to develop players from the youth level, but he is looking forward to starting his career and developing players at the Junior Hockey level as he has a plan in place to help get the Bobcats back on track.

“We are implementing a couple of things to bring our compete level up, I did not think our hearts were in the right place finishing out last season,” said Lane.

Last season the Bobcats made the playoffs but were under .500 within the regular season, as there were some weaknesses within the roster along with the lack of depth on the roster. With Lane coming in he feels like there are some big changes that are coming in order to improve their regular season record as well as advancing further within the Fraser Cup playoffs.

“It showed us our weakness, in planning for this season, we knew what areas we needed to improve on, we revamped our roster and made it better top to bottom,” said Lane

The Bobcats are bringing back players in which they feel like can help improve from last season and know the culture they need to change in order to have a successful season. Lane feels that the players he got to return are the ones that can help lead not only on the ice, but off the ice in being a voice to the team's rookies. The Bobcats went out and signed some players to add to their squad and they are players that are made up of young skilled players who will be able to learn from the veterans of the team.

“Reality is that last season's roster underachieved. We brought back the players that we felt had a team first approach. We are very excited to have Brian Woak and Nate Mastrony return on forward and Paul Johnson on Defense, to name but a few. Our roster was strengthened by some very skilled young players and veterans from around the league. I expect veterans to be always leaders in and out of the locker rooms,” said Lane

This season Bay State will have a new identity, and plan in place to make sure they are back in the Fraser Cup Playoffs with hopes of making a push towards the League Title.
