Saturday Scores: Cyclones win highlights weekend sweeps

Ryo Murakami made 47 saves to help Long Beach hand the Northeast Generals their first loss of the season thanks to a 2-1 shootout win on Saturday.

Wausau 7 @ St. Louis 3 - The Wausau Cyclones topped the St. Louis Jr. Blues in a 7-3 final score. The Cyclones font on the board first with a goal from Hayden Shoemake (3:41) for a 1-0 lead. The Jr. Blues evened the game with a goal from Matthew Mahoney (12:06) for a 1-1 score. Wausau took back the lead with Gage Vierzba (15:59) for a 2-1 score. In the second the Cyclones went on a run scoring four unanswered goals starting with Caron Liebaert (2:54), Brennan Valencia (3:20), Chase Chapman (7:38) and Gage Vierzba (10:54) for a 6-1 lead. In the third the Cyclones added to the lead with Cael Bolton (7:30) for a 7-1 score. The Jr. Blues netted two goals from Aaron Hammer (15:28) and Ryan Callahan (16:44) for a 7-3 final score. Mitch Miscevich made 21 saves in the win.

Northeast 1 @ Long Beach 2 (SO) The Long Beach Sharks took a 2-1 shootout win over the previously undefeated Northeast Generals, 2-1. In the second period, Michael Locke (11:48) scored to get the Generals on the board 1-0. In the second Jack Fitzpatrick (8:07) evened the game 1-1. In the shootout, Jack Fitzpatrick struck again to score giving the Sharks a 2-1 win. Sharks goalie Ryo Murakami made 47 saves in the win, while Luke Fundator made 36 saves in the shootout loss. 

TX RoadRunners 4 @ Atlanta 1 - The Texas RoadRunners picked up a 4-1 win over the Atlanta Capitals. Tyler Love (9:01) opened up the scoring for the RoadRunners with the help of Jack Herron and Mason Bertelsen in the first period. In the middle frame, Jack Herron (6:22 and 13:41) scored back-to-back goals to get the RoadRunners ahead 3-0. In the third, Ethan Geralnik (10:01) scored, adding to the RoadRunners lead, 4-0. Joe McLaughlin (10:20) scored the only goal for the Capitals for a 4-1 final. Nash Wilson made 38 saves in the win.

Austin 5 @ Mid Cities 3 - The Austin Ice Bats added another win over the Mid Cities Jr. Stars, 5-3. The Stars took the lead in the game with Brendon Zeis (15:40) scoring in the first period. In the second frame, Micheal Kennedy (3:20) added to the Mid Cities lead, 2-0. The Ice Bats responde with Ben Allen (5:06) to ger on the board, 2-1. Isaac Fuller (5:52) added another goal for the Stars to make the score, 3-1. Austins’ Jaylen Mendez (6:56) netted a goal for a 3-2 score to end the period. In the third the Ice Bats went on a run scoring three goals with Andrew Lee, Sebastian Hale and Al Evanyk for a 5-3 final score. Collin Lemanski made 55 saves in the win.

Oregon 5 @ Rochester 3 - The Oregon Tradesmen took down the Rochester Grizzlies in a 5-3 final score, handing the Grizzlies their first loss of the season. Oregon opened up the scoring in the first period with two goals with Bryce Stenstrud (8:33) and Nahtan Walker (18:13). In the second Carter Watters (0:17) added to the Oregon lead, 3-0. Zachary Laurila (18;25) scored late to get the Grizzlies on the board, 3-1. In the third period, Spencer Kotz (1:54) added another goal for the Grizzlies. Dillion Schmidt (8:25) got the Tradesmen back on the board for a 4-2 score. Per Waage (14:56) got the Grizzlies on the scoresheet again with a late goal, but Oregon’s Chrsitain Tavare (15:15) added the final goal of the game for a 5-3 final. 

Willmar 2 @ Granite City 4 - The Granite City Lumberjacks added a win to their record with a 4-2 final over the Willmar Warhawks. In the first the game was tied after Sam Brennan (15:02) scored for the Lumberjacks then Michael Sweetland (16:59) scored for the WarHawks. In the second with seconds remaining, Luke Delzer (19:40) got the Lumberjacks ahead, 2-1. In the third, Brady Fairbanks (13:30) evened the game 2-2 with a WarHawk goal. The Lumberjacks went back-to-back in scoring with Tucker Skime (14:52) and Kyle MOrtenson (19:35) for a 4-2 Granite City win. Xander Roberts made 21 saves in the win.

Peoria 6 @ Milwaukee 3 - The Peoria Mustangs scored two goals in all three periods to take a 6-3 win over the Milwaukee Power. The Mustangs got ahead 2-0 in the first with Joseph Rancilio and Tristan Trudel scoring.  In the middle frame, Connor O’Neal (0:54) got Milwaukee on the scoresheet, 2-1. Jaycob Bland (4:55) answered back to add to the Peoria lead, 3-1. Tristan Trudel (8:03) netted his second of the night to close out the second period, 4-1. In the third, Jaycob Bland (2:48) scored his second of the game for a 5-2 score. MIlwaukee went back on the offensive attack adding two unanswered goals with Max Mudge (8:09), Patrick Toomey (9:15) for a 5-3 score. Josh Chesney (18:21) scored an empty net goal for the Mustangs to take a 6-3 win. Kason Yamada made 27 saves in the win.

Alexandria 5 @ Minnesota 3: After falling to the Loons 5-3 Friday night, the Alexandria Blizzard flip-flopped the scores to even the weekend series and grab their first win of the season. The Blizzard grabbed the first lead thanks to a late goal in the 1st period from Parker Anthony. Holden Pratt and Garrett Burroughs gave Minnesota the lead back in the 2nd with tallies but Alexandria’s Ryan Hadland would tie things up heading into the 3rd. In the final frame, the Blizzard got the start they needed as Caleb Moore and Karsten Senden scored consecutive goals for the visitors. Willem Kerr brought the Loons within one but Justin Wasvick sealed the win with a dagger late in the period. Alex Lamont picked up the win in between the pipes, making 28 saves. Matthew Ryynanen took the loss while keeping out 34 of 39 shots. 

New Jersey 1 @ Norwich 4: The Norwich Sea Captains pleased their fans as they completed their first weekend sweep over New Jersey in a 4-1 victory. Jack Kinahan broke the deadlock midway through the opening period. Teagan Beier extended Norwich’s lead with a score in the 2nd period. In the final frame, Cam Hultin and Chris Hamilton continued their offensive surge with goals. The Titans’ lone goal came midway through the 3rd from Ryan Talorico. Andrew Yocum was nearly perfect in his quiet night in the crease, stopping all but one of 15 shots faced. Jake Agoglia made 19 saves for New Jersey. 

New Mexico 0 @ El Paso 2: The Rhinos bounced back Saturday night after falling in their home opener, shutting out the Ice Wolves 2-0 thanks to a strong performance from netminder Patrick Boyle. The deadlock between the two clubs was broken midway through the opening period as Mike Sobaski tickled twine. Payne Pent scored the second and final goal of the contest eleven minutes into the 2nd period. New Mexico goaltender Pierson Hiaslet finished the night with 16 saves. 

Sheridan 0 @ Helena 7: The Helena Bighorns blanked the Hawks 7-0 in a statement win Saturday night. The Bighorns dominated from the jump as Harlen Wotjusik, Jack Walters, and Tyler Bloom all buried goals in the first 20 minutes. In the 2nd, Lyndon Orr lit the lamp and Wotjusik found his second of the night to extend the lead. Andrew Deskin and Bloom added onto the lead in the 3rd with more goals. Gabe Swanson had a strong night in net for Helena, keeping out all 20 shots he faced to secure the shutout. Jack Wood made an impressive 54 saves for Sheridan. 

Gillette 9 @ Badlands 2: Anthony Foster picked up his first hat trick as a member of the Gillete Wild in their dominant win over the Sabres. Zach Vockler and Zack Slinger kept the score at 1-1 through 20 minutes with goals. In the 2nd, Foster, Slinger, Jace Johnson, and Todd Powassin all found the back of the net to pull away from Badlands. It was more of the same in the 3rd as Foster completed his hat trick and Jace Johnson and Wylee Gladen also tickled twine. Badlands’ other goalscorer was Dawson Wirth. Weston Gerke kept out 23 shots in the win while Zach Broxterman and Brady Devries shared time in the Sabres crease, combining for 27 saves. 

Yellowstone 1 @ Great Falls 6: The Great Falls Americans found their offensive stride Saturday night, scoring six goals in their victory over the Quake. Ben Cremers broke the deadlock to give the Americans a 1-0 lead through one period of play. Silas Hughes, Phil Harrell, Jace Thompson, and Dawson Bunch all potted goals to put the game out of reach in the 2nd period. Tyler Sunagel added another insurance goal in the 3rd while Yellowstone’s lone goal came from Sebe Perez early in the middle period. Nik Romahs made 29 saves on 30 shots faced for the Americans while Edvin Falkenstrom and Steven Kelley combined for 52 saves for the Quake. 

Bozeman 2 @ Butte 4: The Cobras made their home supporters happy as they picked up their 3rd win of the season and won their first game on home ice. After a scoreless 1st period, Nick Bradshaw and Tyler Tosch gave Butte a comfortable lead with scores. Cade Wessman and Patrick Crooks doubled that lead with a pair of goals before the halfway mark into the 3rd period. Chris Porciuncula and Spencer Wilkinson gave Bozeman life with goals of their own but it was too little, too late. Braylon Rogers was stellar between the pipes, making 42 saves for the Cobras. Cam Milewski kept out 52 shots for the Icedogs.
