Sunday Wrap-up: Norwich beats Northeast again to challenge in East

Jack Herron helped the Texas RoadRunners take over the lead in the South with eight points in three games.

Norwich 5 @ Northeast 2 – The battle for the top spot in the East just got a little tighter thanks to Norwich’s 5-2 win at Northeast on Sunday. Five different players scored for the Sea Captains and Jacob Begich had three assists. The Sea Captains jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Generals would respond. Goals came from Teagen Beier, Jack Kinahan, Angelo Donzella, and Nicolas Piluso. The Generals tried to comeback in the 3rd period with goals from McCarthy Reed and Tommy Lubin, but Norwich seeled the win with a goal from Sava Makarenko. Brendan Pellerito made 39 saves in the win, which D’Mar McCoy made 23 saves in the loss.

St. Louis 1 @ Peoria 6 – Six different players scored as the Mustangs cruised to a weekend sweep of the Jr. Blues thanks to a 6-1 win on Sunday. Peoria jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 1st period goal from Robin Kuusik. St. Louis tied the game at 1-1 early in the 2nd period with their lone goal from Brady Burke. It was all Mustangs after that as they scored five unanswered goals including goals from Ethan Chesney and Perry Lagatuz in the 2nd period and Jonathan Switzer, JD Duenwald, and Justin Hibble in the 3rd period. Kason Yamada made 20 saves in the win, while Jordan Behnen made 39 saves in the loss.

New Jersey 1 @ Long Beach 3 – The Sharks kept their hot play going and kept pace with the East leaders thanks to a 3-1 win over the Titans on Sunday. Zac Kretzschmer scored two goals in the Sharks win. Kretzschmer opened the scoring in the 2nd period, which was matched by a goal from New Jersey’s Antonio Vidal. In the 3rd period goals from Christopher Keller and Kretzschmer secured the win. Colten McIntyre made 26 saves in the win, while Jake Agoglia made 25 saves in the loss.

Bay State 0 @ Danbury 3 – Danbury goalie Braden Henderson posted his second straight shutout as he stopped all 16 shots that came his way in a 3-0 win over the Bobcats. Danbury took a 1-0 lead in the 1st period thanks to a goal from Canaan Sturdevant. The Jr. Hat Tricks put the game away in the 2nd period with goals from Devin Perkins and Tyler Christian. Bobcats goalie Jacob King made 32 saves in the loss.

Louisiana 3 @ TX RoadRunners 4 – The RoadRunners moved into sole possession of 1st place in the South Division thanks to a 4-3 win over the Drillers, taking two of three games in the weekend series. After Cheeno Gryska gave the Drillers a 1-0 lead, the RoadRunners responded with three straight goals from Tyler Love, Eitan Geralnik, and Kyle Portlock to take a 3-1 lead. The Drillers fought back to tie the game in the 3rd period with back-to-back goals from Frank Steinway. However, the RoadRunners netted the game-winner with just :40 seconds remaining off the stick of Jack Herron. Nash Wilson made 34 saves in the win, while John Moriarty made 22 saves in the loss.

Atlanta 0 @ El Paso 10 – The Rhinos erupted for 10 goals and got a five-point night from Payne Pent in a 10-0 win over Atlanta. El Paso led 3-0 after one period with goals from Carson Doyle, Mike Sobaski, and Pent. In the 2nd period, the lead increased to 6-0 with goals from Jackson Price, Landon Cain, and Pent. In the 3rd period, Price scored again and Trey Erramouspe, Johnny Gunn, and Tristen Elmhurst also scored. Rhinos goalie Christopher Burns stopped all 28 shots that came his way for his first shutout of the season.
