Carlson, Tennyson make Division I plans

February 28, 2008

Two more NAHL players have committed to Division I schools, with second-year Fairbanks Ice Dogs defenseman Matt Carlson deciding on Bemidji State University (CHA) and Texas Tornado defenseman Matt Tennyson heading to Western Michigan University (CCHA).

Carlson, from Grand Forks, N.D., has three goals for 21 points after 45 games this season. The 20-year-old is also a plus-7.

“Matt is a big guy (6-foot-4) who has great feet and hasn’t come close to meeting his potential yet,” said Ice Dogs coach-GM Rob Proffitt.  “I think he’s picked a great school that will challenge him both athletically and academically.”

Tennyson, a 17-year-old from Pleasanton, Calif., has four goals for 13 points in 52 games this season.  He is also a plus-2.

“We’re very excited for Matt,” said Tornado coach-GM Dwight Mullins.  “He’s worked extremely hard for this opportunity and we look forward to helping him continue his development.”
