Saturday Scores: West Division tightens thanks to Rage win

Dawson Creek 4 @ Kenai River 2 – On Saturday, the Brown Bears took a 2-0 lead through two periods on goals from Nick O’Donnell and Chris Nuth. But the Rage, which managed 12 shots in the opening 40 minutes, finally cracked Brown Bears goaltender Austin Severson. Bob Turnbull cut the lead to 2-1 with about 15 minutes to play before Jason Wurk tied it five minutes later with a score on the power play.  Dawson Creek then took the lead for good on a Josh Hartley goal with less than five to play. The Bears, who outshot the Rage 38-24, allowed a goal with an empty net in the dying seconds.  Jack Surgenor made 36 saves in goal for the Rage, netting his first win since September 23rd.  With the loss Kenai River, Fairbanks and the third-place Alaska Avalanche are separated by just two points.  Boxscore

Fairbanks 2 @ Wenatchee 0 – Gabe Levin had a goal and an assist and Steve Perry stopped all 20 Wenatchee shots for his first win and shutout of the season as the Ice Dogs swept the Wild in Wenatchee with a shutout win. Boxscore

Alaska 3 @ Fresno 2 (SO) – Patrick Kinkopf scored once in the 3rd period and again in the shootout, as Alaska swept the Monsters in Fresno.  The Avs scored twice in the 3rd period erasing a 2-0 deficit to send the game to the shootout. Boxscore

Wichita Falls 4 @ New Mexico 5 – The Mustangs scored twice in the 3rd period to erase a 4-3 deficit on their way to a 4-3 win.  Charles Baldwin scored twice while Patrick Anderson and Evan Johnston also had multi-point nights for New Mexico.  Boxscore

Amarillo 0 @ Texas 3 – Rookie goalie Joakim Jutras stopped all 23 Bulls shots as Texas scored once in each period to close the gap in the South on the 1st place Bulls.  Marc Biggs and Jordan Lovick each had a goal and assist in the win. Boxscore

Bismarck 4 @ Alexandria 3 (OT) – Castan Sommer scored the OT winner as the Bobcats increased their Central Division lead to 10 points with the win.  Rory Vesel, Adam Knochenmus and Tyler Richter also scored for Bismarck, while Nick D’Avolio scored twice for the Blizzard. Boxscore

Springfield 4 @ Topeka 0 – Connor Girard stopped all 21 shots and Nick Hudeck added a goal and assist as the Jr. Blues picked up a big cross-divisional road win in Topeka.  Tyler Rehm had the game-winning goal, while Kevin Walters and Mike Williams also scored for Springfield. Boxscore

Coulee Region 0 @ Janesville 1 (SO) – Aaron Davis stopped all 51 shots in regulation and overtime for the Chill, but Jordan Bancroft’s goal in the shootout was the difference as the Jets swept the Chill.  Jets goalie Tony Kujava was again perfect posting his second straight shutout. Boxscore

Aberdeen 3 @ Austin 2 (SO) – Aberdeen completed an improbable comeback scoring two goals in the final 1:23 of the game and then won in the shootout, earning a split in Austin.  Newest Wings member Joseph Mottiqua scored the game-tying goal with :35 seconds remaining. Boxscore

Port Huron 4 @ Traverse City 3 – Ryan Nick had two points including the game-winning goal, as the 1st place Fighting Falcons swept Traverse City on the road.  Ryan Teal, Ian Miller and Max Reavis also scored for Port Huron, while Peter Megariotis made 28 saves. Boxscore

Chicago 1 @ St. Louis 6 – The Bandits scored five, 2nd period goals en route to their fifth straight win, all against Chicago.  Rance Hughes had three points, while Ryan Cotton, Joe Birmingham, Cody Ganchar and Frank Dichiara all had multi-point nights for the Bandits. Boxscore
