Day 2 of 3HL East Showcase in the books

Day 2 of the 3HL East Showcase provided another great day of junior hockey action.  Here is a look at the results from the second day at the Troy Sports Center:

Pittsburgh 7 vs.  Battle Creek 2 – The Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins used a hat-trick from Alex Berardinelli to help defeat the Battle Creek Jr. Revolution.  The Jr. Pens jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 1st period as Berardinelli, Alexander Lysyuk and Bryan Hovanec.  Battle Creek made it 3-1 with a goal from James Romberger.  However, four straight goals from Pittsburgh put the game out of reach, as Berardinelli struck two more times along with goals from Vincent Susi and Reed Gregory. Cleveland 3 vs. Michigan 1 – Lawrence Dvorak Jr. (a tender of the NAHL’s Port Huron Fighting Falcons) made 28 saves as the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks defeated the Michigan Mountain Cats on Monday, 3-1.  Jeff Monfils opened the scoring with a power play goal to give the Jacks a 1-0 lead.  Nichols Bectel tied the game at 1-1 for Michigan.  However, Cleveland dominated the 2nd period, which was the difference in the game with goals from Blake Hamilton and Steve Lecey. Toledo 4 vs. Metro 3 (OT) – Toledo picked up a big overtime win over Metro on Monday thanks to a goal :45 seconds into the extra frame by Toledo’s Joe Skrzynski.  Toledo jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from James Steele and Gary Neill.  Metro answered with a goal from Doug Andrews.  Toledo increased the lead to 3-1 with a goal from Ryan Quigley.  Metro mounted a furious comeback in the 3rd period thanks to goals from Matt Stirling and Matt Stemkoski.  Dillon Kelley suffered the loss making 38 saves, while Austyn Roudebush picked up the win. Flint 3 vs. Queen City 2 – After a scoreless 1st period, Queen City opened the scoring with a goal from Lucas McCammant, who ended up with both Queen  City goals.  Joshua Kestner tied the game on a power play goal.  Flint scored twice early in the 3rd period with goals from Lucas McDiarimid and Brent Formosa to take a 3-1 lead.  Dominic Orlando made 16 saves for the win while Joey Rebedew made 28 saves in the loss for the Steam.
