3HL East Showcase concludes on Wednesday

February 23, 2012

The 3HL East Showcase wrapped-up in Troy, Michigan on Wednesday and the games were full of action.  Two of the games went down to the wire, while two featured larger deficits.  The East Division, led by the Flint Jr. Generals who went undefeated at their second straight 3HL Showcase, picked up the majority of wins against the North Division.  The Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins also went undefeated.  Here is a look at the final day’s action:

Queen City 4 vs. Metro 2 – Queen City has come a long way since the last Showcase and Wednesday was proof of that as they defeated the Metro Jets 4-2.  Back on December 11th, the Steam lost to the Jets 11-3, so the 4-2 win on Wednesday was sweet vindication.  Trevor Anderson scored a goal and added two assists in the win and Joey Rebedew made 29 saves in the Steam win.  Eric Woodward, Trevor Voelker and Henry Smith also scored for Queen City, while Matt Stirling and Cameron Mackey scored for the Jets. Pittsburgh 3 vs. Michigan 0 – Goaltender Reid Daniels stopped all 16 shots to pick up his first 3HL shutout of the year as the Jr. Pens beat Michigan, 3-0.  Alexander Lysyuk, who had at least a point in all four games of the 3HL East Showcase picked up the game’s first goal in the 1st period to give Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead.  James Muncie added a power play goal in the 2nd period to make it 2-0 and Alex Berardinelli finished the scoring with Pittsburgh’s 3rd goal, also in the 2nd period.  Nico Vecchio and Ryan McAloon both picked up a pair of assists. Cleveland 6 vs. Battle Creek 0 – Andrew Mitch had a hat-trick and an assist and goaltender Lawrence Dvorak Jr. made 18 saves as the Jacks shutout the Jr. Revolution, 6-0.  Battle Creek goaltender Matt Hughes made 50 saves and faced 159 shots in his three games played at the Showcase.  Jon Bayer, Kyle Fink and Jeff Minfils picked up the other goals for Cleveland and the 3HL’s leading scorer, Cameron Dimmitt, picked up four more assists to bring his point total to 71 this season.  Boxscore

Flint 8 vs. Toledo 3 – It was a rough final day for the Cherokee as Flint scored early and often and rolled to an 8-3 win to complete an undefeated Showcase.   Richard Jansson had a hat-trick and an assist, Derek Compeau had a goal and two assists, Cody Damon had three assists, but the big contributor was Andy Lay, who registered a goal and four assists for a five point night.  Josh Kestner, James Odom and William Kocher also scored for Flint.  Mike Baker, James Steele and Jake Manders scored for Toledo.
