Day 1 of the NA3HL Showcase is in the books

It was a big day for the West Division as they went a combined 5-1 on the first day of the NA3HL Showcase in Blaine, MN. For all the boxscores and schedules, click here.

North Iowa 5 vs. Peoria 2 – The Bulls fired 48 shots on goal in a 5-2 win over Peoria in the opening game of the NA3HL Showcase.  Tim Santopoalo and Taylor Brown each had a goal and an assist and Connor Langfield had two assists in the win for North Iowa.  Connor Millard had both goals for Peoria in the losing effort.  Aaron Davis picked up the win making 21 saves.

Minnesota 4 vs. Quad City 1 – Andre Pison scored twice as Minnesota jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in a 4-1 win over Quad City on Friday.  Pison scored the opening goal and the third goal for the Flying Aces.  Jared Sprink and Chase Myers-Beck scored the others.  Harley Manus scored the lone goal for the Flames.  Allen Patten made 27 saves in the win.

Twin City 5 vs. Flint 2 – The Steel jumped out a 3-0 lead and never looked back as they topped Flint on Day 1 of the NA3HL Showcase, 5-2.  Trey Hughes had a goal and two assists and Brody Peterson, Tom Bartel, Tyler Lodin and Ryan McAloon also scored for Twin City.  Eric Jones and Brett Leppek had the goals for the Jr. Generals.  Steel goalie Sawyer Marshall was the other star of the game, making 40 saves in the win. 

Battle Creek 0 vs. Granite City 5 – The Lumberjacks stingy defense held Battle Creek to just 11 shots in a 5-0 shutout win on Friday.  Drew Otto and Aidan Verbeke each had three-point nights in the win and goaltender Austin Wilson posted the 11-save shutout.  Matt Hughes had 27 saves in the loss for the Revolution.  Mitch Humphries, Mitchell Gwost, Matt Peterson and Brett Love also scored for Granite City.

Three Rivers 5 vs. Breezy Point 2 – The Vengeance jumped out to a 4-0 lead on their way to a 5-2 win over the Breezy Point North Stars.  Chase Leonelli scored twice for Three Rivers including the game’s first goal.  Kevin Kenny, Alex Berardinelli and Michael Straub also had goals for Three Rivers.  Breezy Point got their goals from Kyle Eberwein and Billy Foy, which both came on the power play. 

Michigan 2 vs. Queen City 4 – The Steam opened up a 4-0 lead and survived a late surge from the Mountain Cats to win on Day 1 of the Showcase, 4-2.  Stephen Pack scored twice, including the game-winning goal for the Steam.  Queen City got their opening two goals from Lucas McCammant and Henry Smith.  Guy Soulliere and Marshall Helton scored in the 3rd period for Michigan.

Metro 0 vs. Alexandria 2 – The Blizzard outshot the Jets 48-10 and managed a close 2-0 shutout win.  Zach Hill scored in the 1st period and Bryce Mitzel scored in the 3rd period for Alexandria, who were kept at bay most of the night by Metro goaltender Trevor Kalinowski, who made 46 saves.  Blizzard goalie Kyle Miller stopped all 10 shots that came his way for his second shutout of the season.

Toledo 1 vs. St. Louis 6 – After an opening goal from Toledo’s Brandon Layman, St. Louis scored six straight goals including four in the 3rd period to win on Day 1, 6-1.  Cody Guidorzi scored twice and Victor Gortz, Lucas Stewart, Kerry McGlynn and Kyle Meeh had the other goals for the Jr. Blues.  Clint Steinmeyer made 21 saves in the win, while Nate Miller made 33 saves in the loss.
