Sunday Wrap-Up: Cherokee get big win over Vengeance

Toledo Cherokee 5 @ Pittsburgh Vengeance 1: Tyler Zalecki picked up his 9th and 10th goals of the season leading the Toledo Cherokee to a 5-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Vengeance. The Cherokee jumped out to an early three-goal lead including Zaleckis first goal of the game. Zalecki struck again on the power play in the second before Gavin Cummings got the only Vengeance goal of the game. Aaron Callan had an easy night in net for the Cherokee stopping 15 shots for the victory. Boxscore

Topeka Capitals 4 @ Sugar Land Imperials 5: The Sugar Land Imperials battled back in the 3rd period scoring four goals including Avik Bordaks second of the night to defeat the visiting Topeka Capitals 5-4. Bordak got the Imperials out to a quick lead scoring 21 seconds into the game to give Sugar Land an early 1-0 lead. Yu Kikosaka scored the first of two goals and added an assist to give back the lead to the Capitals going into the 3rd period. It was the 3rd period when the Imperials offense exploded getting goals from Bordak, Joe Bordak, Luke Simon and Austin Givens to give the Imperials the lead for good. Colton Anderson stopped 42 saves to pick up the win for Sugar Land. Boxscore

Peoria Mustangs 4 @ Cincinnati Swords 3: Austin Ziakas scored a goal late in the 2nd period to break a 3-3 tie and give the Peoria Mustangs the 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Swords. Ziakas was one of three Mustangs who recorded a goal and an assist on the night with Brennan Anderson and Andrew Scofield. Cincinnati goaltender Alec Rounds had 36 saves in defeat while his counterpart Jarin Aden stopped 35 shots to pick up the win for Peoria. Boxscore

Chicago Jr. Bulldogs 5 @ Battle Creek Jr. Revolution 0: The Jr. Bulldogs and Jr. Revolution went scoreless for the first two periods until the Jr. Bulldogs offense exploded for 5 goals in the final frame to pick up the victory over Battle Creek. Zac Edwards picked up two goals for the Jr. Bulldogs and John Godfrey added two assists to lead the Bulldogs offense. Tyler Babinksi took the loss in net for Battle Creek but stopped 45 shots during the loss. Boxscore

Michigan Mountain Cats 1 @ Flint Junior Generals 6: Nichoals Gnagni scored four points to bring his total to 24 on the year as the Flint Junior Generals defeat the Michigan Mountain Cats 6-1. The Junior Generals picked up four goals, with Gnagni picking up three of his four points, before Max Vance picked up his third goal of the year for the Mountain Cats. Anders Franke picked up his 9th win of the year, which is the league lead for goaltenders. Boxscore

Twin City Steel 8 @ Minnesota Flying Aces 3: Alexander Konnov had his best game of the season scoring a hat trick and added three assists to lead the Twin City Steel to their second straight win of the weekend 8-3 over the Minnesota Flying Aces. Konnov wasn’t the only Steel player to have a high scoring game as teammate Jace Childs picked up five points during the contest. The opening period ended up in a tie at 2-2 but then it was the Twin City Steel who exploded for four goals to pull away from the Flying Aces. Blake Anderson and Eric Rogorzenski both picked up two assists on the night for Minnesota. Boxscore
