November 9, 2013

Topeka Capitals 1 @ Dallas Jr. Stars 2: The Dallas Jr. Stars played down a goal all game but came through in the final frame with two markers to take a 2-1 victory over the visiting Topeka Capitals. Jaydn Munnelly opened the scoring 21 seconds into the game to give Topeka a 1-0 lead that held with the great play from goaltender Jude Hull, who stopped 24 shots in defeat including 13 in the first period. In the 3rd period was when the Jr. Stars made their push for their fifth win of the year when Alex MacInnis finally beat Hull two minutes into the period. Dallas goaltender Chris Mallon held off the final charge from Topeka stopping all 12 shots in the third. Dallas forward Tommy Stock picked a good time to score his fourth goal of the season when he converted at 4:36 of the 3rd period to put Dallas up for good. Boxscore

Michigan Mountain Cats 2 @ Toledo Cherokee 3 (SO): The Toledo Cherokee chipped away at the early Michigan Mountain Cats lead winning in a shootout 3-2. The Mountain Cats took the early two goal lead with back to back goals from the line of Zach Collins, Abram Prince and Max Vance, who all ended up with two points on the night. Not long afterwards Toledo struck on the power play as Noah Szenderski put one home for the Cherokee. It wasn’t till the 3rd when Austin Turner put home a pass from Zach Armstrong to tie the game. Breezy Point North Stars 0 @ North Iowa Bulls 10: The North Iowa Bulls had five players score 3 or more points, led by Richie Marenis who scored 4, and beat the Breezy Point North Stars in convincing fashion 10-0. The Bulls, who have now picked up their 11th straight win to start the season started slow only picking up one goal in the opening frame before exploding for five goals in the 2nd period. Timothy Santopoalo was an offensive force in the middle frame picking up his 10th and 11th goals of the season and adding an assist. Breezy Point goaltender Joey Bergquist was busy all night stopping 30 North Iowa shots in defeat while across the ice Chris Amsden picked up his 2nd shutout of the year, his first also came against the North Stars. Granite City Lumberjacks 3 @ Twin City Steel 2 (SO): The Granite City Lumberjacks continue to build their first place lead in the always competitive West division as they came from behind to win in a shoot out 3-2 over the Twin City Steel. The Lumberjacks came into the game with a perfect 7-0-0 record when playing away from home and that perfect record came close to falling early as the Steel leaned on returning forward Calvin Miska for offense. Miska, a 2013 NA3HL Top Prospect tournament selection, now has a five game point streak after his two-goal performance last night. The Lumberjacks finally got to Twin City goaltender Jordan Moran when their returning high scoring duo Aidan Verbeke and Drew Otto connected for Ottos 3rd power play goal of the season. Deep into the 3rd period again it was Otto and Verbeke connecting but this time it was Verbekes turn to light the lamp as his 17th goal of the year tied up the game 2-2. The shoot out was all about the goaltenders as Moran and Granite City goaltender Austin Wilson battled through a nine round shootout until Zac Sikich beat Moran to give Granite City the victory.
