New York goalie Mundinger makes NCAA Division I commitment

March 24, 2016
The New York Aviators, proud members of the NA3HL (formerly the NA3EHL), are pleased to announce that goaltender Stephen Mundinger has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey at the University of Maine for next season.  The Maine Black Bears are members of Hockey East.

A native of Smithtown, New York, Mundinger finished his season with the Aviators with a 24-8-4 record to go along with an impressive 0.936 save percentage. The Aviators finished 2nd in the West Division during the regular season and bowed out of the NA3EHL playoffs this past weekend, dropping their best of three series to Jersey Shore, 2-1.

Mundinger (6’8/220) led the entire NA3EHL this season in save percentage, while also in the rare situation of facing the most shots and making the most saves. He also ranked in the top 6 in goals against average.

Mundinger, 20, was selected to and played on the NA3EHL West Division prospects team at the 2015 NA3HL Showcase where he went 1-0-1 and allowed just three goals in two games during the event.

“I am very happy for Stephen and the opportunity that he has been given with the University of Maine.  He is a player and person of very high character and I know he is going to be a fantastic player for the Black Bears,” stated Aviators head coach Mike Stanaway.
