Rochester forward DeRosa signs NAHL tender
May 29, 2019
The Rochester Grizzlies of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are pleased to announce that forward Matt DeRosa has signed a North American Hockey League (NAHL) tender with the Jamestown Rebels of the NAHL’s East Division.
DeRosa, a native of Alpharetta, Georgia, was a rookie this past season in the NA3HL. The 18-year-old finished at exactly a point-per-game pace for the Grizzlies, with 46 points (23 goals, 23 assists) in 46 regular season games. His +37 was best on the team. DeRosa followed that up with two goals in three Fraser Cup playoff games for the Grizzlies.
The 6'1/180 lbs. forward also appeared in three regular season games in the NAHL for the Austin Bruins. DeRosa joined the Bruins at the culmination of the Grizzlies season. He was also a member of the NA3HL 18U Team which finished runner-up at the 2019 NAHL 18U Top Prospects Tournament earlier this month in Blaine, MN. DeRosa finished with two goals and one assist in four tournament games.
Prior to playing in the NA3HL, DeRosa spent a season playing in the NAPHL for the Elite Hockey 16U team during the 2017-18 season.
DeRosa is the second member of the Grizzlies to sign a 2019-20 NAHL tender. Forward Peyton Hart signed a tender with the Janesville Jets in early January.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include one tender exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on Nov. 1. Tendered players are not eligible for the NAHL draft, which will be held on June 4, 2019.
