Northeast defenseman Petrucci makes NCAA commitment

June 7, 2019
The Northeast Generals of the NA3HL are excited to announce that defenseman Josh Petrucci has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey for the University of Southern Maine.

The 1998-born defenseman from Medfield, Massachusetts, joined the Generals after playing NCAA Division 1 Baseball in Rhode Island.  The love of hockey wouldn’t leave Josh and after two years away from the game he decided to to resume his hockey career.

In High School, Josh played at Catholic Memorial where he excelled both on the ice and on the diamond.

Josh joined the Generals and helped them secure their best record in team history and a berth in the division finals.

“Josh took a little time to get his hockey legs back but when you are that good of an athlete you could see how quickly he improved day to day.  He made a huge impact on our team and added a little bit of nasty and a great shot to our blue line," said Generals Head Coach Darryl Locke.

“When you add a player mid season there is always a fear of the unknown when you have a great locker room but Josh fit right in from Day 1.  He did a great job on the ice and really just bought into Darryl and the Generals program.  Really happy and proud of Josh for all the hard work he put in to get this commitment," said Generals GM Bryan Erikson.

Petrucci is excited about the opportunity and thankful for the role the Generals helped play. “I want to say thank you to the Northeast General’s organization for allowing me to resume my hockey career.  I want to thank Bob Penfield and Rich O’Dowd for taking care of their players.  I want to thank Bryan Erikson for being honest and believing in me.  I also want to thank Joe Lovell and Darryl Locke who are not only great coaches but great people.  To all the guys I played with, it was a pleasure to meet each and every one of you.  The team welcomed me like old friends.  I learned a lot this past year but on thing that has stuck with me throughout is to be where your feet are.  No matter what.  Never get ahead of yourself.”

The Southern Maine Huskies compete in the NEHC which is a powerhouse conference with Babson, Norwich, Hobart, UMASS Boston, New England College, Suffolk, Skidmore, Castleton and Johnson and Whales.
