NA3HL's Knights name Narrigan as Head Coach

June 10, 2019
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights of the NA3HL are proud to announce the hiring of Michael Narrigan as the Head Coach of the Knights NA3HL team for the 2019-20 season. In addition to his NA3HL duties, Narrigan will serve as an Assistant Coach for the Knights in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).

Narrigan comes to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with five years of junior hockey coaching experience. Most recently, the Penn State graduate served as an Assistant Coach for the Eastern Hockey League’s Philadelphia Little Flyers the past two seasons. There, he helped coach the Little Flyers to their best record in franchise history, going 40-3-1 to finish as the top team in the EHL during the regular season.

“The number one thing I learned with Philadelphia was how to build a winning culture,” said Narrigan. “You learn not to accept losing and that you need a total buy in from every one of your players when it comes to culture. That’s what I want to bring to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights.”

“We as a staff at the Knights felt Michael was the best fit for our organization,” said NAHL Head Coach and General Manager Tom Kowal. “Not only will he coach the NA3HL team, but also serve as an assistant to our NAHL team. It was important to find a candidate with the core values and belief in culture that the Knights have, and we found that Micheal’s vision aligned with that of our own. We’re excited to have him on board for the upcoming season.”

“When I met Tom (Kowal), he talked about family and the family atmosphere with the Knights and that’s what really sold me,” said Narrigan. “I owe everything to Mark Catron (Head Coach, Little Flyers) and George Lewis, who hired me in Philadelphia. They taught me so much and told me to go for this opportunity when it became available. It’s rare to find the kind of family-first mentality the Knights have in junior hockey and It’s a great fit for me. I can’t wait to get started.”
