Scoring and scouts highlight Day 1 of NA3HL Showcase

Joseph Arnold led the Skylands Kings to a 4-3 win on Day 1 of the NA3HL Showcase.

The 2019 North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) Showcase opened on Sunday, December 15th at the National Sports Center Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota.
 
Over 130+ NAHL and college scouts checked in on Day 1.

Day 1 Box Scores

TX Brahmas 1 @ Northeast 3 - The Northeast Generals took home their first win of the 2019 NA3HL Showcase as they took down the defending champion Texas Brahmas 3-1. Ben Pizzimenti found the back of the net to open the scoring. John Musella gave Northeast some insurance and ultimately had the game winner as Kolye Bankauskas chipped in a goal in the closing seconds of regulation. Raphael Gaughan stooped 18 shots to puck up the win. Michael Thomas Jr. scored the only goal for Texas while Kayden Hargraves made 21 saves in the loss. 
 
Louisiana 4 @ L/A 8 - The L/A Nordiques got two goals and three assists from both Connor Kennedy and Bryce Leggier as they defeated the Louisiana Drillers 8-4. Peyton Hughes tallied a goal and three assists while Tyler Larsen and Sam Frechette grabbed a goal and an assist. Grant Griffin led the Louisiana Drillers had two goals and an assist while Brandon Morgan also found the back of the net twice.
 
Mid Cities 5 @ NE Knights 4 (SO) - Hunter Leonhard scored the deciding goal in the shootout as the Mid Cities Jr. Stars outlasted the New England Knights 5-4. Leonhard’s goal in regulation tied the game. Brady Nelson, Logan High, and Remy Kesling all found the back of the net for the Jr. Stars in the win. Noah Kinsinger made 26 saves to win his seventh game of the year. Leevi Kervinen, Kyle Madigan, Jake Willis and Ryan Morrison all scored for the Knights. Patrick Gribbin made 27 saves in a losing effort. 
 
Atlanta 5 @ NE Stars 6 - Josh Boyd’s third period hat trick led the New England Stars to a 6-5 comeback victory over the Atlanta Capitals. Connor Barter lit the lamp twice and Michael Cooprider had a goal and an assist. Cam Carpenter only needed 12 saves to win his first game with New England. Matthew Macumber, Lucas Crawford, Ryan Berke, Gunner Moore and Brandon Plummer all found the back of the net for Atlanta. Noah Ping stopped 18 shots in the loss.
 
Elmira 1 @ Rochester 5 - Matthew DeRosa potted a pair of goals and Joey Fodstad had a goal and two assists as the Rochester Grizzlies took down the Elmira Jr. Soaring Eagles 5-1. Porter Haney had a goal and two assists while Devin Hays also found the back of the net. Sean Guerin allowed just one goal en route to winning his third game of the season. Ryan Reifer had the only goal for Elmira while Thomas Held made 31 saves.
 
Bozeman 1 @ North Iowa 5 - Joey Petronack’s two goals was enough to beat the Bozeman Icedogs as North Iowa won 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. Carter Wagner, Justin Daly and Carter Eha all had a goal in the win. Matt Dahlseide contributed three assists. Dysen Skinner made 15 saves to pick up the win in net. Luke McKay had the lone goal for Bozeman while Conan Hayton made 31 saves in a losing effort. 
 
Skylands 4 @ Gillette 3 - James Clarke’s second period goal stood as the game winner as the Skylands Kings held off the Gillette Wild 4-3. Thomas Hoffman, Justin Hiler and Joseph Arnold all scored in the win. Kobe Kitagawa tallied a goal and an assist for the Wild while Tyler Kaminski and Caleb Sanborn also scored in the loss.
 
Yellowstone 4 @ Wausau 2 - Dylan Rumpke scored twice as the Yellowstone Quake doubled up the Wausau RiverWolves 4-2. Will Yates and Jon Green also lit the lamp for the Quake while Michael Allman stopped 28 of 30 shots. Kasey Couture and Hayden Miller were the goal scorers for Wausau. Joseph La Forge made 20 saves in the loss. 
 
Great Falls 1 @ Granite City 4 - Four first period goals paced the Granite City Lumberjacks to a 4-1 win over the Great Falls Americans. Cody Dias got the scoring started while Jonah Jangula doubled the lead. Nathan Green got on the scoresheet while Troy Dahlheimer scored the fourth goal of the day for Granite City. Nate Johnson stopped 19 of 20 shots. Jake Hayes was the only goal scorer for Great Falls while Viktor Wennberg and Trever Mellen combined for 33 saves. 
 
Danbury 1 @ Coulee Region 5 - Parker Severson registered two goals as the Coulee Region Chill took care of the Danbury Colonials 5-1 on the first day of the NA3HL Showcase. Gadded Khismatullin and Christopher Gilbert had a goal and an assist while Sam VanderHoeven also found the back of the net. Michael Janke stopped 26 of 27 to win his ninth win of the year. Kolby Donovan had the lone goal for the Colonials while Shane O’Brien made 26 stops. 
 
Sheridan 4 @ New Ulm 2 – Sheridan goalie James Downie made 30 saves to lead the Hawks to a 4-2 win over the New Ulm Steel. The Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead, which included a goal from Justin Schwartzmiller in the 1st period and goals from Alex Kesler and Blake Billings in the 2nd period. The Steel fought back to make it 3-2 as Corey Stormer and Jack Parks scored, but a late empty-net goal from Anthony Fortin secured the 4-2 win. Jack Raymond made 12 saves in the loss.
 
St. Louis 4 @ Alexandria 2 – St. Louis forward Clayton Dawe had a goal and two assists to lead the Jr. Blues to a 4-2 win over the Blizzard. The game was tied at 2-2 after two periods as Mark Capkovic and Joey Boccardi scored for the Jr. Blues, while Alex Heidenreich and Austin McNeil answered for the Blizzard. In the 3rd period, Dawe scored the eventual game-winner early in the frame and Joey Solimando added a late goal for the 4-2 win. William Oliver made 16 saves in the win, while Ville Hyttinen made 25 saves in the loss.
 
TX RoadRunners 3 @ Maine 1 – RoadRunners goalie and recent NAHL call-up Jaeger Reed made 29 saves to lead Texas to a 3-1 win over Maine. The RoadRunners jumped out to a 2-0 lead with 1st period goals from Garrett Wilderman and Mason Evans. The lead increased to 3-0 in the 2nd period as Brenden Fehlig scored in the 2nd period. Maine got their lone goal midway through the 3rd period as Isaac Dube scored his first goal of the season. Tom Spero made 34 saves in the loss for the Wild.
 
Helena 2 @ Breezy Point 4 – Breezy Point goalie Griffin Foster made 37 saves to lead the North Stars to a 4-2 win over the Bighorns. The North Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two periods, which included goals from Blake Crawford, Brandan Premo, and Gunner Bourassa. Helena clawed back in the 3rd period and made it 3-2 with goals from Abraham Laggis and Johnny Baird, but a late goal from Garrett Freeman secured the win. Bighorns goalie Aaron Campbell made 28 saves in the loss.

Long Beach 0 @ Peoria 11 – Dillan Bentley and Zach Eddington each have five points as the Mustangs bombarded Long Beach with an 11-0 win. The game was over early as Peoria scored six goals in the 1st period. Bentley and Eddington each had a goal and Quinton Murphy had a pair of goals and Connor Bennett and Austin Keil also scored. Bentley would add two more goals in the 2nd period to complete a hat-trick. George Giese added two goals in the 3rd period and Ian McHenry also scored. Kason Yamada made 17 saves in the shutout, while Richard Prazan made 23 saves in the loss.
 
Missoula 2 @ Willmar 8 – Tony Brings had two goals and two assists to lead Willmar to an 8-2 win over the Jr. Bruins. The WarHawks got balanced scoring in all three periods as Danny Klatt, Brandon Holt, and Josh Hoffman scored in the 1st period. Brings, Dylan Svoboda, and Eli Slagter scored in the 2nd period and Brings added another in the 3rd period along with another goal from Hoffman. Missoula goals came from Mi-Kwan Tallman and Cayce Balk. Luc Haggitt made 24 saves in the win, while Larkin Dolan made 43 saves in the loss.
 
Butte 2 @ Milwaukee 6 – Garrett Alton had three assists to lead the Power to a 6-2 win over the Cobras. After Butte scored first on a goal from Carsten Quam, the Power got three goals from Wesley Knutson, Isaiah Hedberg, and Ryan Butt to take a 3-1 lead. In the 2nd period, Robin Bagley scored for Butte to make it 3-2, but it was all Power after that as Ryan Hoover, Brady Rossbach and Donovan Balisteri scored to make it a 6-2 final. Ty Barnhill made 24 saves in the win, while Danny Fielding made 40 saves in the loss.
