Friday Finals: Granite City tops West with win in North Iowa

The Helena Bighorns knocked the Bozeman Icedogs out of 1st place in the Frontier Division thanks to a 4-2 win on Friday night.

Granite City Lumberjacks 5 @ North Iowa Bulls 3 – In a battle of West Division powers, the North Iowa Bulls lost at home against the Granite City Lumberjacks, 5-3. The Bulls scored late in the 1st with a shot from Matt Dahlseide followed quickly by a goal from Troy Dahlheimer of the Lumberjacks. Ryan Pogue put the Lumberjacks ahead in the 2nd before Sota Isogai of the Bulls could score. Two more goals for the Lumberjacks came from Carson Simon and Nick Plautz. In the 3rd Landon Johnson of the Lumberjacks made an early goal, Cam Fagerlee of the Bulls scored to make it a two-goal game. Lumberjacks goalie Bailey Huber made 25 saves of 28 while Bulls goalies Evan Babekuhl made 23 of 28 and Joseph Daninger made 8 of 8.
 
Sheridan Hawks 6 @ Gillette Wild 0 - The Sheridan Hawks defeated the Gillette Wild on the road, 6-0. In the 1st the Hawks scored three goals with one coming from Briar Sylvester followed by two from Logan Syrup. The Hawks added two more in the 2nd with goals from Kolten Wright and Blake Billings. The only goal in the 3rd came from Billings of the Hawks. Goalie Luke Fundator of the Hawks had a shutout with 24 saves while Wilds goalies Luc Haggitt allowed 4 of 21 goals and Shane Phillips allowed 2 of 26.
 
Bozeman Icedogs 2 @ Helena Bighorns 4 - The Helena Bighorns won at home against the Bozeman Icedogs, 4-2. The Bighorns took the lead in the 1st with goals from Ty Niskanen and Isaac Ellingson. Luke McKay of the Icedogs scored first in the 2nd period followed by a goal from Niskanen of the Bighorns. The Icedogs scored again in the 2nd with a goal from Duncan McGarrah. Bighorns forward Darren Donovan scored :16 into the 3rd. Bighorns goalie Ethan Racz made 46 saves of 48 in the win while Icedogs goalie Conan Hayton made 40 of 44 in the loss.

Yellowstone Quake 5 @ Butte Cobras 4 - The Yellowstone Quake traveled to beat the Butte cobras 5-4. The Quake got on the board first with three goals from Tyler Cramer, Jack Harris, and Dylan Rumpke. Alec Sorby scored with one second left in the 1st to get the Cobras on the board. In the 2nd period Cobras forward Kyler Garsjo scored answered by a Quake goal from Rumpke. Will Yates put one more up for the Quake before two goals from Robby Arver and Nick Bradshaw of the Cobras could make it a one-goal game. Goalie Hudgel Selk of the Quake allowed 4 of 36 shots on goal while Danny Fielding of the cobras allowed 5 of 59.
 
Mid Cities Jr. Stars 4 @ Atlanta Capitals 6 – The Atlanta Capitals won at home against the Mid Cities Jr. Stars, 6-4. Kirill Nikulichev of the Capitals scored the only goal in the 1st. In the 2nd period the Jr. Stars got on the board with two goals from Rj Muckensturn before Capitals forward Christopher Walker could tie it up with just under a minute left. The Jr. Stars came out strong in the 3rd with a goal from Zach Perez just under a minute in, only to be answered with a shot from Nikita Pecheritcyn of the Capitals. Jr. Stars forward Hunter Leonhard scored only for the Capitals to put up three moregoalsfromAndreiRusakov, Joey Allegrini, and Gunner Moore. Capitals goalie Patrick Egdorf made 31 saves of 34 in the win while Jr. Stars goalie Nahuel Veyan made 36 of 42 in the loss. 
 
Louisiana Drillers 8 @ Texas RoadRunners 3 – Thanks to a hat trick from Blake Siewertsen the Louisiana Drillers defeated the Texas RoadRunners, 8-3. A goal from Blake Siewertsen gave the Drillers an early lead in the 1st before Trevor Borlace of the RoadRunners could score. The Drillers put up two more points from Ivan Matveev and Brandon Morgan followed by a goal from RoadRunners forward Matthew McBride. In the 2nd the Drillers kept their lead with another goal from Siewertson and one from Grant Griffin. In the 3rd the Drillers managed two goals with one from Ben Cope and another from Siewertson to complete a hat trick before Borlace of the Jr. Stars could score again. The final goal of the game came from Forward Ivan Matveev of the Drillers. Goalie Chris O'shaughnessy made 45 saves of 48 shots on goal while RoadRunners goalies Jaeger Reed made 31 of 36 and Blake Forystek made 13 of 16.
 
Peoria Mustangs 0 @ New Ulm Steel 3 - The New Ulm Steel won at home with a shut-out from goalie Igor Samokhvalov. Nick Wieben of the the Steel scored the only goal of the 1st period. In the 2nd Wieben scored again followed by teammate Jacob Halvorson. The Mustangs and the Steel held each other off in the 3rd. Igor Samokhvalov of the Steel stopped all 26 shots while Mustangs goalie Jaden Gardner allowed 3 of 24.
 
L/A Nordiques 4 @ New England Knights 1 - The L/A Nordiques traveled to beat the New England Knights, 4-1.The Nordiques scored twice in the 2nd period with goals from Joe Clark and Bryce Leger. In the 3rd Sam Frechette scored for the Nordiques before Nolan Murphy could get the Knights on the board. Nordiques forward Michael Keller scored with just over a minute left in the game. Goalie Jason St. Pierre of the Nordiques made 35 saves of 36 in the win while knights goalie Patrick Gribbin made 44 or 48 in the loss.
 
Long Beach Sharks 2 @ Skylands Kings 11 - Thanks to a hat trick from Sean Kenny the Skylands Kings dominated at home against the Long Beach Sharks, 11-2. The Kings put up four goals in the 1st from Trevor Christopher, Sean Kenny, Khole Hibbert, and Dylan Dinzik. In the 2nd the Kings started with two goals, one from Kenny and another from Joseph Arnold, answered with two goals from the Sharks from Benjamin Jennings and Stephen Conklin. The Kings added another goal with just over a minute left in the 2nd with a shot from Trevor Souza. In the 3rd period the Kings put up four more goals from Arnold, Christopher, and Jonathan Meyers with the final goal completing a hat trick from Sean Kenny. Kings goalie Andrew Herms saved 23 of 25 shots while Sharks goalie Richard Prazan saved 49 of 60.
 
Milwaukee Power 3 @ Willmar WarHawks 7 - The Willmar WarHawks won at home against the Milwaukee Power, 7-3. Ryan Hoover of the Power scored in the 1st quickly followed by Danny Klatt of the WarHawks. In the 2nd period the WarHawks added 3 from Brandon Holt, Mason Wiebusch, and Eli Slagter before Power forward Garrett Alton could score twice. Wiebusch and Holt of the WarHawks scored again in the 3rd followed by a goal from teammate Christopher Drews. Goalie Lukas Haugen of the WarHawks made 29 saves of 32 in the win while Power goalie Ty Barnhill made 59 of 66 in the loss.
