Sunday Wrap-Up: Stars, Lumberjacks punch playoff tickets

New England Stars forward Josh Boyd had two game-winning goals this weekend to help the Stars clinch a playoff spot.

Elmira Jr. Soaring Eagles 3 @ New England Stars 6 - The New England Stars won at home against the Elmira Jr. Soaring Eagles, 6-3. In the 1st period Thomas Liebold of the Eagles scored before Luke Church could put the Stars on the board. Jayvon Fogelgren of the Eagles put them ahead with a goal :06 into the 2nd followed by three goals from the Stars, one from Henry Beguelin and two from Josh Boyd. In the 3rd forward Anthony Viola put up two points for the Stars before Liam Murphy of the Soaring Eagles could score. Goalie Cam Carpenter of the Stars made 12 saves of 15 while Daniel McCarthy made 46 of 52.
 
New Ulm Steel 4 @ St. Louis Jr. Blues 3 - The New Ulm Steel traveled to defeat the St. Louis Jr. Blues, 4-3. In the 2nd period the Steel got on the board with two goals from Keegan Bauman and Jack Parks before Joey Boccardi of the Jr. Blues could score twice. Joey Gimberlin scored late in the 2nd to put the Steel in the lead. Van Kraemer of the Jr. Blues scored early in the 3rd before Mason Enright of the Steel. Steel goalie AJ Cohen made 32 saves of 35 in the win while Jr. Blues goalie William Oliver made 26 of 30.
 
Wausau RiverWolves 0 @ Peoria Mustangs 10 - Thanks to a shutout from Cole Walter the Peoria Mustangs dominated at home against the Wausau RiverWolves, 10-0. In the 1st the Mustangs scored twice with goals from Jaycob Bland and Dillan Bentley. The Mustangs put up another three goals in the 2nd from Jackson Bihun, Bentley and Tristan Trudel. In the 3rd period the Mustangs added another five points to their lead with goals from Bland, Ian McHenry, George Giese, and two from Camden Swearington. Goalie Cole Walter of the Mustangs made 18 saves in the shutout while Tyler Klatt of the RiverWolves made 37 saves of 47.
 
Granite City Lumberjacks 7 @ Willmar WarHawks 1 - The Granite City Lumberjacks traveled to defeat the Willmar WarHawks, 7-1. Nathan Green of the Lumberjacks started the 1st off strong with two goals. In the 2nd Tony Brings of the Willmar WarHawks scored followed by goals from Cody Dias, Jonah Jangula, and Blake Spetz of the Lumberjacks. Late in the 3rd the Lumberjacks put up two more points from Carson Simon and Cameron Lantz. Lumberjacks goalie Nate Johnston made 21 saves of 22 in the win while WarHawks goalie Luke Weberg made 40 of 47. 
 
Atlanta Capitals 1 @ Texas Brahmas 3 - The Brahmas won at home against the Atlanta Capitals, 3-1. In the 1st period the only goal came from Andrue Trelstad of the Brahmas. Kobe Kitagawa of the Capitals scored in the 2nd only to be answered by a goal from Seth Wyatt-Manning of the Brahmas. Forward Blake Rothstein of the Brahmas scored the only goal of the 3rd. Brahmas goalie Bryce Runyan made 20 saves of 21 in the win while Capitals goalie Patrick Egdorf made 31 of 34 in the loss.
 
L/A Nordiques 7 @ Maine Wild 0 - The L/A Nordiques traveled to defeat the Maine Wild thanks to a shut out from Brogan MacDonald, 7-0. In the 1st period the Nordiques had two goals from Sam Frechette and two in the 2nd from Sergei Anisimov and Bryce Leger. The Nordiques added three to their lead in the 3rd with two goals from Michael Keller and one from Bradley McMains. Wild goalie Keenan Gamache allowed 7 of 7.
 
New England Knights 3 @ Northeast Generals 8 - Thanks to a hat trick from Kolye Bankauskas the Northeast Generals won at home against the New England Knights, 8-3. The Generals started the game with four goals in the 1st, one from Drew Schemmel followed by a hat trick from Kolye Bankauskas. In the 2nd Nolan Murphy of the Knights scored twice followed by a goal from Generals forward Samuel Rychvalsky. Cody Porcello of the Knights put one up in the 3rd followed by goals from Robby Beck, Bankauskas, and Deacon More of the Generals. Generals goalie Raphael Gaughan made 24 saves of 27 in the win while Patrick Gribbin of the Knights made 43 of 51.
 
Mid Cities Jr. Stars 3 @ Louisiana Drillers 4 - Thanks to an overtime goal from N Hartline the Louisiana Drillers won at home against the Mid Cities Jr. Stars, 4-3. Ben Cope of the Drillers scored early in the 1st followed by a goal from RJ Muckensturm of the Jr. Stars. In the 2nd Muckensturm scored again only to be answered with a goal from Zach Smith of the Drillers. Brandon Speights of the Jr. Stars scored late in the 3rd before Shamil Khadizhalov of the Drillers could tie the game. Drillers forward Nathan Hartline scored 2:15 in overtime to win the game. Goalie Chris O’Shaughnessy of the Drillers made 42 saves of 45 in the win while Nahuel Veyan of the Jr. Stars made 48 of 52 in the loss.
