NA3HL announces Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey

The North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) today announced the Divisional Stars of the Week presented by Bauer Hockey for the week ending January 26, 2020. The divisional stars of the week are awards given each week of the regular season to the top-performing players in each of the six divisions of the NA3HL as nominated by their head coaches.

 

Central Division Star of the Week: Marco Escobar, F, Coulee Region Chill

Escobar was at his best in three games last week, scoring twice and logging a whopping six assists to guide the Chill to a 2-1 record. Goals on Monday and Friday extended his scoring streak to four straight with at least one marker, and a pair of assists also in Friday’s win coupled with four more on Saturday saw him post back-to-back multi-point outings for the first time since mid-December. Escobar boasts 19g-30a—49pts in 33 games this season. 

 

2nd Star: Jacob Wiethaupt, F, St. Louis Jr. Blues

Coastal Division Star of the Week: Kolye Bankauskas, F, Northeast Generals

Bankauskas has been putting up absurd numbers this season, and last week was no different. Seven goals, five assists and three wins in three games marked another eye-catching week for the Rhode Island native, pushing his season totals to 54g-51a—105pts in just 35 games as he gains ground on the NA3HL regular-season goal-scoring (67) and point-scoring (163) records. With 2-1—3 on Friday, 1-2—3 on Saturday and 4-2—6 on Sunday, Bankauskas also made it six straight multi-point contests, logging three or more in five of those. 

 

2nd Star: Derek Flynn, D, New England Stars

Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Josh Boyd, F, New England Stars —  Tami Merilainen, D, Northeast Generals

 

Frontier Division Star of the Week: Declan Young, F Gillette Wild

Young and the Wild couldn’t have asked for a better week, as the forward posted back-to-back hat-tricks and 11 total points in a pair of wins over the Cobras. His three goals were matched by three helpers in Friday night’s win, during which he found twine both on the power play and while shorthanded. On Saturday, he bagged two more assists to accompany his hat-trick, which also included the game-winner, to mark his second set of back-to-back games with five or more points in each contest this season. Young — the NA3HL’s third-leading scorer — has 40g-37a—77pts in 38 games so far this season. 

 

2nd Star: Blake Nerney, F, Great Falls Americans

Northeast Division Star of the Week: Sean Kenny, F, Skylands Kings

Kenny and the Kings won big last week, as the forward posted consecutive three-point performances in a pair of victories. Friday featured a two-goal, one-assist effort from Kenny, and Saturday saw him set up three strikes. Kenny has now logged 12 points in his last three games, and 11g-29a—40pts in 34 games this season.

South Division Star of the Week: Bryce Runyan, G, Texas Brahmas

A rock between the pipes, Runyan starred in Texas’ two wins over Atlanta last week. He earned his second shutout of the season on Saturday, stopping all 16 shots he faced. Sunday saw more of the same, as Runyan faced down 20 of 21 en route to a 3-1 victory and a .952% save percentage. Runyan is 13-2-2 on the season, and boasts a 2.38 GAA and .908 save percentage in his 18 appearances. 

 

2nd Star: Brandon Speights, F, Mid Cities Jr. Stars

Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Parker Mara, F, Texas Brahmas — Zach Perez, F, Mid Cities Jr. Stars — Andrei Rusakov, F, Atlanta Capitals

 

West Division Star of the Week: Jacob Halvorson, F, New Ulm Steel

Halvorson entered last week on a three-game point streak and only got hotter from there, logging nine points in three huge wins over top competition. Friday’s 5-3 win over North Iowa featured his first five-point game of the season as he bagged a goal and four helpers. He starred again on Saturday with two goals, including the game winner, to guide New Ulm past St. Louis 5-4. Finally, he closed out his week with two more assists in a 4-3 win again over the Jr. Blues, inflating his season totals to 22g-25a—47pts in 30 games this season. 

 

2nd Star: Nathan Green, F, Granite City Lumberjacks

Honorable Mention (alphabetical): Sota Isogai, F, North Iowa Bulls — Landon Johnson, D, Granite City Lumberjacks — Michael Savelkoul, F, New Ulm Steel — Jac Triemert, F, North Iowa Bulls — Braeden Zaste, F, Breezy Point North Stars
