Elmira goalie Konkel makes NCAA commitment
The Bay State Bobcats (formerly the Elmira Jr. Soaring Eagles) are pleased to announce that goaltender Nick Konkel has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at King’s College.
Konkel, 20, played his first and only season in the NA3HL during the 2019-20 campaign for Elmira. The 6’1/175 lbs. native of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, posted a 7-5-1 record in 16 appearances this past season, which included a 2.95 goals against average and a .919 save percentage.
"Nick is a phenomenal goaltender and an even better kid," said Bobcats General Manager and Head Coach Anthony Langevin. "He came to us in his last year of Juniors and his goal was to join a Junior A Program which took care of their players and moved guys on in their hockey careers. He wanted to reach NCAA College Hockey. He stole games we should probably not have won and he kept other games close for us. He is one of the best team leaders I have ever coached in my life. Nick is going to make an immediate impact at King's College and especially on the Hockey Team. King's is getting a quality human being and goaltender. I couldn't be more excited for Nick and his family."
