Sunday Wrap-Up: Blizzard get big win against Bulls
Alexandria 4 @ North Iowa 3 – The Blizzard got 36 saves from Atticus Kelley in an upset of the Bulls on Sunday. Alexandria jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to 1st period goals from Dallas Duckson and Nikolai Rajala. In the 2nd period, the Bulls stormed back in the 2nd period with three goals. Nick Mohs-Messerli and Carson Jones scored to tie the game at 2-2. The Blizzard briefly regained the lead as Trent Sylvester scored, but then a goal from North Iowa’s Jack Campion knotted the game at 3-3. In the 3rd period, Sean Kenny scored for the Blizzard to net the game-winner. Bulls goalie Carson Stokes made 25 saves in the loss.
Peoria 2 @ St. Louis 0 – Mustangs goalie Andrew Doran stopped all 27 shots that came his way for his first shutout of the season as Peoria salvaged a weekend split with the Jr. Blues thanks to a 2-0 win on Sunday. After a scoreless 1st period, the Mustangs went ahead 1-0 in the 2nd period with the eventual game-winning goal from Jack Craycroft. Tony Campise would add a late insurance goal in the 3rd period to secure the win. Jr. Blues goalie Owen Carlson made 29 saves in the loss.
Atlanta 0 @ TX Brahmas 6 – Dolan Gilbert posted his second straight shutout as the Brahmas cruised to a 6-0 win over the visiting Capitals. After a scoreless 1st period, it was all Brahmas in the 2nd and 3rd periods. Tyler Blanchard scored twice, which included the game’s first and last goals. Leevi Selanne scored in the 2nd period and Jacob Kalandyk, Blake Rothstein, and Ian Erdman all scored in the 3rd period. Atlanta goalie Matthew Genter made 27 saves in the loss.
New Ulm 1 @ Granite City 4 – The Lumberjacks moved into a tie for 2nd place in the West Division as they handed the Steel their 6th straight loss in a 4-1 win on Sunday. Four different players scored for the Lumberjacks, which included Braeden Bartoo in the 1st period, and Cody Dias, Nicholas Richert, and Troy Dahlheimer in the 2nd period. The lone Steel goal came from Parker Dorn. Granite City goalie Josh Weyandt made 17 saves in the win, while AJ Cohen made 13 saves in the loss.
TX RoadRunners 2 @ El Paso 8 – Thanks to a hat-trick from Easton Easterson, the El Paso Rhinos rolled to their 6th straight win with an 8-2 win over the visiting RoadRunners. The Rhinos jumped out to a 3-0 lead with 1st period goals from Easterson, Noah Decker, and Cooper Anderson. The RoadRunners made it 3-1 thanks to a goal from Derek Boutin. The momentum was short-lived as Easterson answered with his second of the game to make it 4-1 at the end of one period. Early in the 2nd period, Easterson capped of his hat-trick to make it 5-1. The RoadRunners got a goal later in the period from Tim Marsico to make it 5-2. The Rhinos tacked on three more goals in the 3rd period, including another from Decker and others from Trey Erramouspe and Colton Chipman to complete the 8-2 win. Ryan Nocerino made 18 saves in the win, while Jaxon Taylor made 27 saves in the loss.
Titans 3 @ Bobcats 1 - The Titans got 25 saves from goalie Grant Goodson in a 3-1 win over the Bobcats. The teams were deadlocked at 1-1 after one period as Eyan Gonzalvez-Helm scored for the Titans, which was then answer by a goal from Jerzy Gus for Bay State. In the 2nd period, the Titans took over the lead for good as Brandon Avezov netted his 17th goal of the season. Late in the 3rd period, Gonzalvez-Helm added his second goal of the game on an empty-net. Bobcats goalie Zack Roncarati made 39 saves in the loss.
