Sunday Wrap-Up: Lumberjacks winning streak hits 8 straight

Granite City 4 @ Alexandria 2 – The Lumberjacks continued their hot play as they won their 8th straight game thanks to a 4-2 win in Alexandria on Sunday. After a scoreless 1st period, Granite City opened up a 3-1 lead with three goals in the 2nd period from Nicholas Richert, Wyatt Halverson, and Ben Anderson, while Sean Kenny scored for Alexandria. In the 3rd period, the Blizzard cut the lead down to a goal at 3-2 thanks to a tally from Dallas Duckson, but a goal later in the period from Carson Simon secured the win. Josh Weyandt made 26 saves in the win, while Atticus Kelly made 38 saves in the loss.

Missoula 3 @ Gillette 6 – The Wild inched closer towards clinching a playoff spot as six different players scored in a 6-3 win on Sunday. Gillette scored first in the opening period on a goal from Tucker Lien. The Jr. Bruins took a 2-1 lead later in the period with goals from Shane Dotto and Owen Miley. The Wild then rattled off the next four goals to take a 5-2 lead, which included tallies from Nicolas Delli Bovi, Declan Young, Caleb Sanborn, and Carson Kuche. Cayce Balk scored for Missoula in the 3rd period to make it 5-3, but an empty-net goal from Will Blake secured the 6-3 win. Cole Wheaton made 26 saves in the win, while Maxim Currie made 54 saves in the loss.

Titans 5 @ Generals 7 – Tyler Ramm had two goals and three assists to lead the Generals to a 7-5 win over the Titans. Nick Byron had a hat-trick and Brett Bell scored twice to account for all of the Titans goals. The Generals got a goal from Jason Gratz in the 1st period, two goals from Ramm in the 2nd period, and goals from Jake Hosszu, James Clarke, and two goals from Nick Ramm in the 3rd period. Espen Reager made 23 saves in the win, while Grant Goodson made 36 saves in the loss.

El Paso 6 @ TX Brahmas 3 – The Rhinos salvaged a win in their three-game series in Texas thanks to two goals and an assist from Cole Schneider in a 6-3 win over the Brahmas on Sunday. El Paso scored twice in each period, which included 1st period goals from Schneider and John Mulvihill, 2nd period goals from Schneider and Colin Kerchoff, and goals in the 3rd period from Cooper Anderson and Nate Beamish. The Brahmas got goals in the losing effort from Jack Cooper, Matej Palfy, and Mason Mara. Ryan Nocerino made 26 saves in the win, while Logan Gorbitz made 25 saves in the loss.

Willmar 4 @ New Ulm 3 (OT) – Dylan Gajewski scored twice, including the overtime-winner, as the WarHawks come from behind to beat the Steel, 4-3 on Sunday. Gajewski opened the scoring in the 1st period. However, New Ulm rattled off three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead, including two from James Spaargaren and another from Zach Maillette. In the 3rd period, the WarHawks fought back behind goals from Lewis Rowan and Tanner Hallett to tie the game at 3-3. Gajewski scored midway through overtime, which was his 12th goal of the season. Willmar goalie Will Pinney made 22 saves in the win, while Griffin Foster made 33 saves in the loss.

Sharks 1 @ Jr. Hat Tricks 2 – Nathan Hadley made 17 saves to lead the Jr. Hat Tricks to a 2-1 win over the visiting Sharks on Sunday. The Sharks took a 1-0 lead in the 1st period thanks to a goal from Aleksandr Gamzatov. The Jr. Hat Tricks tied the game at 1-1 thanks to a 2nd period goal from Adam Palomeque, which was his first of the season. In the 3rd period, the Jr. Hat Tricks got the game-winner midway through the period off the stick of Nikita Kovalev, who scored on the power play to secure the 2-1 win. Sharks goalie Greyson Skirpan played well in the loss, making 47 saves.
