Brahmas forward Kalandyk makes college commitment

July 7, 2021

The Texas Brahmas of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward Jacob Kalandyk has committed to play ACHA Division 1 hockey at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Kalandyk, 21, is a two-season veteran of the Brahmas, accumulating 38 points (20 goals, 18 assists) in 45 regular season games played. The 6’1/195 lbs. native of Saginaw, Mich., ended the 2020-21 season with a +36 rating.

A known playmaker on the ice, the skater ranked within the top-five Texas Brahmas in goals, points, assists, and points per game (0.95). Kalandyk is a true testament to the ladder of development, playing games in the NAPHL at the 18U and 16U levels with the Meijer AAA hockey program.

“I’m excited to start the next chapter of my life and continue my education and hockey career at Liberty University,” said Kalandyk, regarding his commitment. “I’d like to thank Ryan Anderson for all he’s done for me over the last season and all my teammates. I couldn’t have done it without them! I’m excited to see what the next few years have in store for me.”

Kalandyk also played in 32 career NAHL games with the Lone Star Brahmas.

“This is a great moment for Jacob and his family,” said head coach of the Texas Brahmas, Ryan Anderson. “I know how excited he is to be able to attend Liberty and continue his hockey career. Kaly has been a part of our family for 2 years and in each of those seasons he was counted on to produce and he did. The veteran leadership he provided this season to our young guys was invaluable to our success. Coach Handy at Liberty is getting a complete 200-foot player who can be counted on 5 on 5, on the power play, and on the penalty kill. I was able to see Jacob’s work ethic and character for two seasons and I have no doubt that he will transition smoothly to the college game and be able to handle the pressures of school. I look forward to watching Jacob be successful on and off the ice in Lynchburg for Liberty. We will miss him greatly in Brahmaland.”

Kalandyk joins five other Brahmas to make college commitments this season: Leevi Selänne (Curry College) and Ian Erdman (Saint Mary’s), Jack Cooper (King’s College), Tyler Blanchard (King’s College) and Shane DiTullio (Aquinas College). Liberty plays in the ASUN Conference.
